I am not very good at writing about myself, which is why it has taken me this long to post anything here.
I was not raised in a nudist family, in fact just the opposite. However, even though nudity was not allowed, whenever I was alone in the house, I would be nude.
I have always been a rather quiet and shy person, and never had a lot of friends in school. Growing up I had major body issues and very low self esteem. I have always been rather underweight and would never take my shirt off when others were around, even to go swimming.

In the mid 70’s there were a lot of news reports about people streaking at schools and sports events. I remember thinking how great it must be to feel comfortable enough about your appearance that you could do that. Also about that time there was a story about nudity being allowed at Black’s Beach in San Diego. (Remember that at that time there was no internet to help people learn about the positive aspects of going nude and where it was possible to do it). I can not remember the exact year, possibly 1979 or 80, that one day in late summer I decided to drive down to San Diego and see what Black’s Beach was really like. I parked at Torry Pines beach and walked south from there to go to the nude area. I was wearing a shirt and jeans (I did not even own a bathing suit) and felt very strange walking along the beach. I remember coming around the Point that separated the clothed area from the nude area and seeing all these nude people swimming, walking and sunning for as far as I could see. I just stood there for what seemed an eternity but was no more then a few moments and then just stripped off all my cloths. It was the most freeing and at the same time the most normal feeling I had ever experienced. After that first visit I tried to get down to San Diego every two or three weeks during the summer for the next few years.

Since then I found out about other beaches that were closer to home. Until it was closed to nude use, my favorite was Rincon/Bates Beach in Santa Barbra. For the last few years I have been going to Deep Creak Hot Springs. There you can leave all your cloths in the car and hike from Bowen Ranch to the Hot Springs. I used to drive there nude and then pull on a pair of shorts when getting out of the car to pay the entrance fee. A few years ago I asked Mike if he would be OK with me staying nude, and he said he had no problem with it as long and no one else complained. Since then I have always stayed nude, even when there have been other cars pulling in behind me.

Last year (2010) there was two very memorable nude activities for me. In April I ran (walked really) in the first Bare Burro 5K at Olive Dell. For anyone interested in doing this, I say go for it. It was a lot of fun and the people at Olive Dell are great. In June I rode in the first Los Angeles World Naked Bike Ride to be held in several years. There were about 90 riders all told with approximately half that number, including myself going completely nude. The organizers of the ride did a great job of planning out the 13 mile route so it was a very easy ride. There is no way to describe the feeling of being completely nude riding your bike through downtown L.A.

Due to family and finances, I have not been able to do as much nude as in the past. Lately most of my nude outdoor time has been hiking alone above Castaic Lake on the weekends. For anyone in the L.A. area looking for a place within reasonable distance, this is something you should consider. It is not a nude area per say, but with reasonable precautions, you can hike nude without to much concern. The trails are not long and there is no easy way to get down to the lake but the views of the lake are nice and the area is quite enough that you can just relax and enjoy the beauty of the area.

I am not married, but I do have a girl friend. Unfortunately she is not a nudist and has absolutely no desire to participate in any of my nude activities. It can be lonely at times being a nudist without the support and understanding of those close to you, but thanks to the web and sites like this I do not feel like some sort of freak anymore.

As you can see, I have come a long way in my nude activities, from being a secret at home nudist to riding in the World Naked Bike Ride. Even though I know I am not in great shape, I am now comfortable enough to be nude practically anywhere it is acceptable.

Just a note for those of you who have read down this far, I do enjoy being nude almost anywhere at any time but it is definitely not about exhibitionism or anything sexual. I am not here for anything other then to share ideas and talk about what we all have in common, which is the simple joy of being nude.

Also, I am rather old fashioned in that to be a friend means knowing something about the other person and having at least a few things in common. So if you want to send a friend request be sure to communicate first so I know something about you.

I have rambled on long enough, but I hope you get a sense of what it means to me to be a nudist. I am still the shy, quiet one at most gatherings, but now I can accept myself for the way I am.
