Return to DiscussionsThe water at El Dorado is great for soaking. Two options for nude use: rent a private tub or the communal area ("Desert Pete"). I have only used Desert Pete. It has a couple of communal tubs, a couple of 1-person bathtubs, an open-air shower and a few sunbeds off to the side. Attendance has ranged from 2 to 10 when I have visited but your mileage may vary. Desert Pete is quiet and peaceful and is a cost-effective option for short visits and/or small groups (even 1 or 2). I am not sure I would want to spend an entire weekend right at El Dorado, but it is not far from BLM administered land (e.g. Saddle Mountain, Eagletail Mountains, Hummingbird Springs) that is suitable for discretionary nude hiking. Lastly, you may have read that El Dorado is rustic; it certainly is that. It is best suited for people who can see a certain rural charm in that, and do not expect 4-star shine and polish.
I have not attended Shangri La; hopefully someone with 1st hand experience will share their thoughts. From everything I've read, it sounds like a friendly resort with good amenities. A bit farther north off I-17 some hiking trails may also be amenable to nude use with caution. Most likely, someone attending Shangri La could speak to this.
