True Nudist Firearms Enthusiasts
This is a group dedicated to those of us who enjoy the shooting sports, and the firearms we use.
To start us off, let's introduce ourselves.
Return to DiscussionsHi, I'm cottontail. I enjoy shooting all kinds of guns. My favorite is the AR-15 that I assembled. My second favorite is my trusty S&W 686. That revolver was the first serious self-defense gun I ever bought, way back in the eighties. To give you an idea of how long ago that was, it's a plain-Jane 686; there's no hyphen after the model number. It's only a six-shooter, not seven. With that revolver, and somebody's wadcutter reloads, I easily kept up with a bunch of guys using accurized Ruger and Browning .22's, shooting an NRA bullseye match - that'll give you an idea of how accurate the gun is.
My AR-15 started off with an Anvil Arms lower receiver (that I had etched with my own logo). I added a RRA mid-length upper with a Wilson stainless steel match barrel, 1 in 8 twist. The internals are all RRA also. I topped it off with Cavalry Arms furniture in Coyote Brown, and a rear BUIS by YHM. All I really need is a decent optic, and I'll be all set. Oh, and the Pmags I got are the same shade as the furniture - I guess that makes me a gear queer, huh?
I also shoot .22 rifles, and I have a Mossberg 835 12 ga kicking around somewhere. I've got a couple .40's that I use for CCW (yes, I have my card). I don't really hunt... I guess you'd call me a paper-puncher. I think I'm pretty much set up for self-defense, and for fun shooting. All I need is a good .22 pistol, and then I'll really be set.
But enough about me... what are y'all shooting?
I've got an 30-30 '94 winchester, with a barrel that was apparently removed at some point and is not perfectly aligned, but I can still hit a tack at 50+ yrds with it... Also have a scoped browning 22 with stock side tube magazine - small, crisp, and fun to shoot. I've had a S&W model 29 and 629 (still have the 629) that I used on patrol back in the 80's, now carry a Glock Mod 23 .40 caliber. It's a natural for instinctive shooting... and is pretty good when you use sights, too (trillium sights - green on front, dbl yellow on back). Need to get it laser'd. Had others, but that's all i can think of at present.
I have wanted a gun for decades but my wife said, "NO WAY". Some battles are not worth fighting. After she died in 2006, I considered gettign a handgun but I did not get serious until November of 2008. When I saw how the American political landscape was going, I figured I had better get a gun while I could. In that month, I bought a Glock 19, joined a shooting range and got my concealed carry permit. Oh, and voted for Sarah Palin (she lost). I now go to the range pretty often but usually have to choose between the range and the nudist resort. Resort wins mostly!I only shoot paper and if my house is broken into, I will probably die before I can get the damn safe open but I need to keep the gun out of reach of the granchildren. Virginia JUST passed a law that will allow concealed carry permit holders to have their guns in restaurants if the owner agrees. It goes into effect today and I am going to a restaurant tonight to celebrate. I will not have my gun, though, as I have yet to find a holster I really like.

I have many firearms, collectors, hunting, and for protection! I can say that, for my part, I don't really believe in all the many fancy high powered rifles with scopes, etc.there are as my favorite of all is my older 30-30 Winchester carbine! It is light and small enough to stick in your belt climbing a fence (if you wear anything....lol) and very versatile as far as handling. If sighted in as well as mine is, I can verify that any decent "shooter" can pop a pesky chicken hawk in the chest at 100 yards setting on a dead limb as my Brother-in-Law did once after I told him where to "set" the sight (no scope)before pulling the trigger! Another advantage is that 30-30 ammo can be found most anywhere is very reassuring!
Dave here.I won't list my guns on the internet, but have participated in many of the shooting sports and have the equipment to cover a large spectrum. My father introduced me to shooting and the safety aspects at a very young age, and it has carried on to this day. I did the same with my son and never kept firearms locked up. I believe proper training, and shooting with your kids often negates the curiosity aspect andis the key to firearm safety. I handload for most of my calibers and cast bullets for several.
Hello to everyone in this group! Happy to be a part of it. I have a couple of rifles and handguns. Right now, my favorites are a S&W 686+ and a Sig P220. This changes regularly though! I have a concealed carry permit and exercise that daily. I'm lucky enough to live in a very gun friendly state. We have some of the best indoor ranges anywhere. Most weekends you can find me on the range.
I'm Roger, and I'm a cruffler! In other words, i have a federal Curio and Relic Collectors license, with a primary interest in old military rifles. Since I don't live very close to any ranges, I can't get out to shoot as often as I'd like. When I do, it's a lot of fun!
