You can legally wear bikinis most places. Permissible for thongs and g-strings vary from state to state.

I always show my wife new swimwear and the only ones she has commented adversely on have been micro-briefs. Brazil cut briefs, thongs, tangas and g-strings are all OK as far as she is concerned.
I'm also lucky to live in the UK where simple nudity in public is not illegal, although we still have to be a little careful not to upset too many prudes.
So here's my problem with wearing thongs and G strings,
I'll start by contradicting myself and say I don't have a problem wearing them, I have quite a few and love wearing them, the smaller and skimpier the better,!!!
Being a naturist, being naked feels normal and not really sexual, but the irony is wearing things like that does feel sexy, by covering up with a tiny piece of cloth that says teasingly this is the bit you can't see, you are drawing attention to the genitals, whereas naked is a blank canvas, you cant be accused of leading where they look, thats there decision.
The dichotomy of that is ironically it feels way more exhibitionist wearing a thong than it does being naked, and for that reason although im quite happy being naked in public, ive never yet worn a thong or G string in public

That is true for the USA and probably for the popular resort town beaches in the UK but on rural beaches in the UK, almost all beaches on the continent of Europe and especially in the Greek, Balearic and Canary Islands anything goes without any problems.
The pictures below show me in semi-transparent g-strings on textile beaches on a Greek island and Gand Canaria.

Thanks for your input. I have worn a thong to the resort I frequent in AZ. Typically I just wear one while in my car and change into nothing at the resort. They have a workout room there with weights I like to use. About a month ago I was in there working out. My penis is a bit long so to keep it from flopping around I put on a thong. There were several others in there as well so I asked if it was ok with them. They confirmed I was good to go with a few complementing me on my look. I like the minimal look and feel of a thong while giving me support. Working out in a g string/thong lets me see what I need to work on while making me feel terrific.

It is very relaxed, I was in forteventura, there were 8 villas in a little complex with a pool area in the middle,

The person who told me the most retired to a relatively remote area of Gran Canara.
He said that nudity was generally accepted, even in areas that were not clothing optional.
He found that he could shop nude at outdoor food stands, including ones for dairy, poultry and eggs; fish and produce.
The produce stand was affiliated with an organic farm. When they found out that he had a background in horticulture, they offered him a part time job and he accepted it on the condition that he could work nude.
The fishermen selling seafood at the dock only wore very short shorts and admitted to him that when they went out to sea, even the shorts cane off.
He found a few cafes and taverns that allowed nude patrons on the patio and restauranrts in some of the clothing optional resorts were open to the public.
The last time he posted, his clothing supply consisted of one each of jeans, shorts, hoodie, poncho, and kilt, one pair of sandals, and a few short sarongs and t-shirts, and he hadn't worn the pants or shorts in over 2 years.
