Accused of Being Nude
Return to DiscussionsLast time I was at the gym, I was accused of and confronted by an employee for being nude in the locker room, leaving the curtain open while taking a shower, and being nude in the steam room.
My response was, "It's a men's locker room. One should expect to see male nudity in a men's locker room."
I wasn't doing anything lewd or lascivious -- I was merely without artificial adornment or costume.
Yes, I'm a naturist and I'm totally comfortable being nude in any situation. Afternoon tea with the Queen o England would be perfectly acceptable.
Regardless, I was in a men's locker room where all occupants should be (though many are not) totally comfortable being nude and in the presence of other nude men. It's a men's locker room.
Im always surprised to hear/read people are scared of being naked in a changing/locker room, especially in the US. Here in Canada, at the Y most people are full naked walking around in the changing/locker room, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, and communal shower. People need to remember they are in the mens changing room!!!
While not confronted by an employee, they have posted signs around the locker room, generally post Covid indicating you must have a swimsuit on to enter the sauna, steam room or jaccuzzi. All were used almost exclusively nude prior to the pandemic
Is it the case of the younger generation, with a bent towards gymnophobia, getting into positions of power and making changes to fit with their world view?
Not sure what is meant by gymophobia. I think single moms rearing boys so they arent around a dad naked at their house and mom always tells them to put their clothes on. Additionally, The boys are becoming as body conscious as girls - maybe social media ??? - so they are way to consumed on comparison.

If COVID is a respiratory disease, how does wearing a swimsuit help? COVID has been (and continues to be) blamed for lots of things and now we can add gymnophobia (fear of nudity, for the poster who asked). The only way to work around this is to continue to show nudity is acceptable and does not mean sexual perversion.
So annoying!
I don't use a gym but I do use the local university pool here in the UK as I used to work for the university, and I'm glad to say that nudity in the locker room is totally normal and also in the showers. No-one is the slightest bit bothered - and that's how it should be in a men's locker room! A lot of public pools nowadays though don't even have men's locker rooms - only crappy 'changing villages' with cubicles and mothers with screaming children, etc. :-
