Queensland Nudists
A group for nudists in Queensland, Australia.
Where to take a 1st timer for a pool swim & sun?
Return to DiscussionsHey there friendly Qld peeps,
Looking for the collective wisdom:
My adorable wife has never shared my enjoyment of the breeze on
bare skin, but she's rarely in clothes around the house (in fact, I
wear clothes more than she does! lol). She'll do anything to wallow
in water for a few hours, and recently we returned from Germany
where she was quite happy to strip off and used mixed gender spas.
She LOVED it and quite frequently reminisces.
We did a trip to Byron years ago, but she hasn't become interested
in returning yet, mostly because the surf was too rough (read: no
water wallowing!) and a guy asked (politely) to take our photo
which we declined. Not really an incident, but it rattled her.
I've never done the resort thing (only beaches) and I think its
time I suggest a day visit to her. I figure we can leave within the
hour if she doesn't like it.
I've settled on two day visit possibilities based on her love of
pools, spas, and gardens:
1. Bobrene @ Mt Tamoborine.
2. Balkaz
Retreat @ Caboolture.
I was wondering if people could help me out with a recommendation
for one or the other, and why. Accommodation is not in
consideration, as commitments mean we must return home by
sundown.
On other important factor: she's quite a reclusive introvert, so
any attempts by people to be social with her might backfire on my
project! :-) She's not rude, but she avoids social
interaction if possible.
So, what would people recommend?
Cheers,Wink.
I can certainly recommend Bobrene. There will be couples and not likely to be any singles. She might find that more comfortable. As for wallowing, their pool is great. I haven't been to Balkaz but it sounds good.
Thanks for the recommendation Dropbear. :-) The more I think about what I have seen online, the more I think you are right. Their pool area looks great, you can slip in and out of the spa (all part of the pool system) and there's walks in the immediate area. That's all very much my Mrs taste.

Hi Wink,I haven't been to bobrene before, but I have been to Balkaz and I certainly recommend it. Nice, upmarket and friendly environment.Pacific Sun Friends is also good for one-on-one week visits, as well as weekends. I highly recommend it, and wish your wife the best of luck with becoming comfortable with the local nudist scene here. :)
You will find most venues have sociable nudists. Strongly suggest you speak to the venue hosts about your situation and you'll find they'll be forth coming with suggestions for their venue. Most venues will allow one person of the couple to remain clothed on the first visit, some venues cater for one textile partner. Which is usually what their website is refering to when it says "clothing optional", other than when it's too cold to be completely naked of course.
Haven't been to BoBrene yet, but have meet Bob & Rene a few times... lovely couple, think they'd make great hosts. Know people who went to their grand opening back in 2008 or 2009 (can't remember which year now). They've put a lot of effort into their property. Couples only.
Have been to Aquarius Nature Retreat (club), most members attend on a Sunday as that's there most popular day for socialising. They have gardens & a pool. No spa or walking tracks. 5 acre private area, Browns Plains. Host(s) are Gavin, his partner Gillian and occasionally his sister Barbara. It would be quieter on a Saturday visit, if it's not a long weekend etc.
They're quite a sports oreintated club. Couples only.
Have been to PSF (Pacific Sun Friends) in Donnybrook, hosts are James & Jan. They're on a couple hundred acres. plenty of bush walks, creek... take mossie rellepent. They're likely to allow you to take your well behaved dog too. No pool or spa. They have members who live onsite, so there's always people there. It does get busy on weekends, however being new, they may not talk to you unless you talk to them. Many hang out in small groups and keep to themselves. Some still socialise with everyone. People always there.
If you look up their website they generally have events every month, some include a live band. Allow singles.
Have been to Balkaz Retreat in Donnybrook. Hosts are Karen & now Katie, as she now lives there and helps out. Lovely small 2 acre property. Manicured gardens, pool and spa. Also held events often, recommend checking their website. Busy day is normally on Saturday, rather than Sunday. Allow singles.
Have been to Eagles View near Toowoomba. Hosts are Harry & Shelley. Have several acres (40-50 from memory, could be wrong), gardens, pool and spa. Can be quiet at times and busy at other times, best to check with hosts. I been there as a couple and have been the only guests thereovernight on a weekend, yet another time it was full. Couples only.
Haven't been to Elephant Rock south of Ipswich, north of Tenterfield, NSW. Hosts are Jaak & Sue. Have a couple hundred acres. Have pool, unsure of other features. Check their website. Allow singles.
Have been to Cooroy Colony near Cooroy. Owners are Bruce & Julie, but they have managers/hosts running the place year round now (as of this year) and I don't recall their names. No pool, spa or gardens. There is bush, unsure as to whether or not they've made walking tracks as yet. It's not an overly busy venue at present, as it use to be a seasonal venue. The owners own more than one venue and opened each for part year only previously. Allow singles.
These venues are mentioned on the ANF (Australian Naturist Federation) website and are local to South East Queensland.
Wow! Em! You're a star! Thanks for the time you took for the detailed write up with focus on peak/off peak times. I'll show this to my lovely wife.
Ignoring the peak flux and mozzies, Donnybrook sounds like the next best option because she loves a creek. :-) But I'm still heading my bets on BoBrene. But there's a few good options in there, and the extra info will be very useful.
I've been meaning to get back here to TrueNudists and give an update:
The Mrs agreed to give it a go while we were in transit to Sydney, at Kiata Country Club. She loved it, helped by the fact she was having a wine out of a drink bottle by the pool! lol! We went on a weekday, and met a couple of very friendly members who live on site. Lovely huge facility with a large pool, attached spa, and a huge swimming hole too. Lots of walks. She loved it so much, she insisted we return on our drive out of Sydney on a Monday.
She's still hung up on "being seen" locally though, but I think the memory of Kiata is so good, we might win this one! :-)
Thanks again everyone, and I'll get to posting a review of Kiata.
