New kitten comes home tomorrow
Return to DiscussionsWell, friends...tomorrow after work is the day I drive an hour to pickup my new kitten. She was born the weekend after Memorial Day, which was Travelites birthday celebration. We're thinking about naming her Tlite with a middle name of Ayla now, but we'll see after spending some time with her.
She was actually born on April 15th I found out from one of the vet techs.
Monday night was stressful, Tuesday was too. We had a battle, and I lost, but not the war. LOL She doesn't have a scruff at the back of her neck. I spoke w/her vet who said to turn her upside down (I assume that would be on her back wrapped in a towel) in a submissive position. Yesterday she and I snuggled, most of the time using a heavy towel. Last night was the first time we heard a meow out of her. Yesterday when I got home from work, we noticed her left eye was swollen. We used an eye wash a few times, and it seems to have helped. Today we took her to the vet and $98 later after she was purring up a storm in the clinic office and cuddling without the towel there came home. I went to toss Ayla into the cage that was given me so she feels secure, Allen accidently walked into me, and she bolted. She's in our bedroom somewhere. She'll come out and into the cage where her food/water/litterbox is.
I hope she comes out soon as we have to re-apply the antibacterial ointment three times a day.
She left the closet to live under our bed except for the litterbox, food/water that remains in the crate. Finally my DH decided to use a jack to raise one side of the bed. He pulled her out via her legs, she yowled in protest but did not extend claws. I wrapped her in a towel to settle her down and get her into the carrier to head out for her 2nd round of vaccinations. She's now back into her crate and loving as she was 2 weeks ago. In fact, when I stroked/scratched her neck or head, she did the same to me. LOL
Update - now at 21 weeks, she is more affectionate and will eventually integrate with the others (we hope). We now have her food and water out of the crate. From time to time we leave the bedroom door open, and she will venture out to the hallway but doesn't usually see the other 2; she quickly returns to the bedroom, "her home."
Ayla is affectionate mostly at night when she crawls onto our bed and kisses my face or back and doesn't stop until I start to pet her. I am sleep deprived. LOL
Ayla is now 7 months and has started eating adult food. We moved her food dish to the area that the adult cats eat as well as her water dishes. They all share the food and water now. We tried letting Ayla outside for a bit, and she went outside for a couple of seconds, turned around and came inside. The next day, she went out and found herself under the deck. 1-1/2 hrs. later she came out and came inside by herself. One of the two adult cats when I asked (this is not a joke) her to go under the deck and get her out, went under the deck twice, but the "baby" didn't come out. She still feels our bedroom from where she was evicted during the night now, is her room. I'm still not allertic to her. She will walk/run into it if she is nearby and one of us opens the door, nearly tripping us.
She is still short, but 24-inches long at 6 pounds. I really don't think she's going to get any taller. She continues to be loving first thing in the morning and at night. She still has her kitten energy most of the day. LOL
