Forest Bathing
Return to DiscussionsHow many of you have heard of Forest Bathing (shinrin-yoku)? If you haven't you can look it up on the internet. Most news networks have done a story on it. It is quite trendy. It is something I have been doing from before I knew it was a thing (now it is trendy). It is in large part about using all your senses to connect with nature. The thing that bothers me is that almost no one suggests that you do it naked. How can you use your senses to connect with nature if you are covering up your largest sensory organ. You might as well wear ear plugs or super dark sunglasses. People who don't try Forest "Bathing" fully exposed to nature are missing out in my opinion. There is nothing better than feeling the wind slide around your naked body, the tall grass brush against your thighs, or even just walking with the sun warming your naked skin. I'll concede those times that are too cold or too buggy. Thought?
So true. No nudist will disagree. It is only remarkable that the people who promote Forest Bathing don't see it as a preferred way. It just doesn't seem enlightened. The whole thing is a bit boggling - you can pay to have a Forest Bathing guide.
Many humans over millennia have derived health and growth "forest bathing". I have recognized the value my whole life. Modern capitalists label, commodify and monetize it, that's what we do, unless we can see past the commercialization. Wait for the app. I love to enjoy the forest nude and do it often. But as usual I don't assign a "must be nude", it's too valuable to not engage in it even when clothes are required.

I heard and read about it. Forest Bathing appears to be gaining popularity, or rather they are promoting it in Japan and Korea. I read that in Korea, you are encourage to, and be able to get nude "behind some thin covers". I am not sure how they do it.
I do try to connect with nature whenever possible, fully naked. I've tried before and i'd say, the experiences have been good.
I totally agree last year when camping in the pine trees of Flagstaff Arizona. Walking around enjoying nature naked. Listening to the birds ,listening to the air moving through the trees, feeling the breeze on your body, and amazing feeling.
