Thongs at public beaches
Return to DiscussionsBy Minimalist:That's relatively conservative as thongs go.
By nuderay:My first thong. Can't see going with g string. Very comfortable to wear. Just needs confidence to wear at public beach
That's fine. Baring your bum is already a statement for a man (probably was also a statement for a woman but no-one complained and it caught on :-D ) so doing so with a conservative cut is fair enough and balancing it with a standout colour (that may even be sheer when wet?) ups the boldness factor again.
Ray's ahead of me right now as the few I've actually worn a thong have generally been in the vicinity of the clothing-optional beach which is perhaps less unexpected. (Actually, I think I did once wear a string-side thong onceat my nearest suburban beach on a quiet day for a weekday lunch-break dip and walk. It must have been after discovering TN but before visiting Sunnyside North C/O beach for the first time.)
I should try wearing one in a busier textile area this summer. But do I go with my black one (comparable in coverage to Ray's yellow one and definitely never transparent, a string-side, tie side or one that covers slightly less when wet, or even when dry? Questions, questions...

Have cheeks exposed is different feeling. Goes transparent when wet due to yellow color. Wear mine around friends then take it to public beaches. Thong I find skippier then my aussiebums. It's all a learning experience for sure.
Certainly the feeling of an exposed bum is different both to being totally nude where everything's out in the open and a brief where everything is covered and feels it. I like the variety.
Especially nice once paddling in the water.

So you wouldn't try swimsuits like these?

On a different track, my in-laws in Australia mentioned that the word thongs if more often applied to footwear than swimwear in Australia. The subject came up because we took my brother-in-law and his family to a fairly nice restaurant and there was a sign in the lobby that men wearing thongs were permitted in the bar but not the dining room. I was confused until or niece's husband said that they were referring to footwear, not swimwear. Since he was wearing thongs (on his feet) we ate in the bar area.
Both Ray and I have string-side bikini suits (I can't recall the precise models now but think one of mine is a M57U and a couple are a little lower and less narrow in the back but essentially the same outline) and I've worn them at most beaches I've been to but then, while brief, they don't go into thong territory. So, should I stick to that style but also with a thong rear or choose something with just a little more coverage despite being a thong? Hmmm. I'd probably decide on the day and could even layer the thong invisibly beneath a bikini while I check the 'scene' before committing.
