Went to basic at RTC/NTC Orlando, EM "A" School at NTC San Diego, then Nuclear Power School at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA, and finally Nuclear Power Training Unit at the prototype for the Enterprise's power plants, at NNPTU, INEL, Idaho Falls, ID.

Got aboard USS Bainbridge, CGN-25 in November 76, did 2 and 1/10 WESPAC cruises, and separated in March 81. I would do it again.

Get off watch at 0345, go out on the weatherdecks, make my way forward all the way to the pointy end, and relax. After awhile, I would hear, and see, the splashing of the dolphins as the raced alongside and directly under the prow. And the myriads of stars--from Polaris and the Little Dipper to the Southern Cross. I would do it again.

Did two years at the Springfield, MO reserve unit; wish I had done the other 12--under Reagan, Bush 41, and maybe a year under Clinton. (I could use the extra cash for my mistress right now--her name is Piper Cherokee 140, LOL.)
