Sunlight, shadows, composition and setting
Return to DiscussionsHello. I am new to this group and to TN. I am really jazzed about this group, as I am passionate about outdoor nude photography.I uploaded several photos to the group during the last couple days to add to the others that are in this vein.I am hoping that these and natural-environment photos posted by others can provide the beginnings of a discussion about combining sunlight/shadow, composition and setting to make powerful and iconic nude images.I am an amateur, and come to my photography skills by way of two professional photographer partners, a little training in document design, intense interest and some practice. I use very simple equipment and very minor editing for the most part...taking a series of shots trying to capture the image perfectly in the viewfinder is my goal. While I take many types of photos, my favorites are nudes because of the amazing beauty, complexity and variation in the nude human form. I enjoy using color, shadows, movement and direction in the environment in contrast or in complement to the human form.I would appreciate your comments about this approach and any expansion on this topic you choose. I look forward to a lively discussion on this and in the other threads. Best!
Hello and welcome to TN! I am a newbie nudist and very much interested in photography like you are. Its good to see some fellow nudists expressing their passion for nude photography although some folks here don't like it too much.
Its disheartening that most nudist resorts don't allow photography otherwise I would have been very happy to carry my camera while visiting such a resort and click some artistic nudes of interested people.
Thanks for your comments tklf79. I guess that is why there are groups within TN, as that seems to be where each of us can best express and discuss with others our personal interests, passions and questions about our nude lives.
In beginning to review the group's photos, I am especially taken by the color/composition-rich photos of AusSkinnydipper, 2hangfree, madnude, and leolucdx among others that seem to embrace this general approach in the photos.
Hello. it was nice to read your comments about your involvement with Photography. I too share the same interest in the subject. It has been a longstanding hobby of mine that goes way back before the digital era. Back in the days of Black and white film, and I still have and use a Darkroom. My one favourite subject is the Nude human form. It offers a unique challenge in all its forms shapes and tones. It is great hearing about someone else with similar interests. Welcome to TN Cheers.
This is about that must nudist resorts don't allow any photography. Unfortunately there are those who take nude photos for sexual purposes. I have found that that at most nudist resorts, the resort owner or manager will click a nude photo of you away from other nudists. Early in the morning at poolside (before any other nudists are there) is one time they will take your nude photo. But that doesn't challenge your photography skills.
Photographers and nudists in Europe do not have to face the particular inhibitions and restrictions prevalent in the USA. It doesn't seem productive to divert the good intentions of this thread into a general complaint about life in America.
We would do better to concentrate on the issues raised by the author of this thread.
We should do so by looking, seeing, reflecting and then commenting:

Thanks to all who have chimed in so far. And thanks Pamela69 for bring the discussion back on topic. The two photos you posted here are interesting in that the nude form is carefully framed to dominate the photo and the backgrounds are somewhat ambiguous, unlike some of the photos that I have noted in earlier posts. However, the concept is similar, in the use of shadows, color and composition to create balance in the photo. I have noticed that several of your photos uploaded to this group are virtually devoid of background, which creates a completely different effect. In these photosthe play of light and shadows on your nude form is consistent, and the lack of background makes the nude image pop out of the photo.
leolucbx, As you say, we work with what we have. And you are correct that in the Pacific Northwest we have some spectacular views. What I find, however, is that there are pockets of photogenic natural environments all around us. I also enjoy taking relaxation photos on my deck. Probably because it is such a peaceful, private space to be nude. I especially like the middle photo of you, sitting back on your deck soaking in the low-angle sun. This photo uses the light and shadows very nicely to accentuate the tone and rich color of your muscular form. The weight balance and flow from top left to bottom right make this photo pleasing to the eye. Above all, the feeling of relaxation and peace jumps out of this photo. And that is so much what our lifestyle is about. Bravo!
