permaculture and nudism
Return to DiscussionsHello, I have been wondering about the overlap between the philosophies of nudism and permaculture. My garden is one of my favourite places to be naked, I feel at peace. It would seem to me that the ideas of working with nature (permaculture) and connecting with nature through nudism would go hand in hand. Has anyone thought more deeply about this than me? Or read anything that integrates the two worldviews?
In some ways, everything people have said above is true. But in another way, permaculture is antithetical to the way nudism is often practiced. If you are thinking in terms of your favorite nudist resort, sunning on a deck chair between dips in the pool, permaculture is not at all like that. Permaculture is a regular round of physical activity.I only have 1/8 acre to work with in the Cambium naturist community, but it ensures I stay physically active. Maybe I need to dig up cassava root, wash it, and cut it into the separate roots. Then the canes need to be trimmed for planting material for the next cassava bush. Or, maybe the plantains are ready; so out comes the machete as I chop down the tree-like stem, and cut it into sections to compost back into the soil. Weeds grow quickly in the tropics, and the locals have shown me their method of weeding: rather than sit and pull weeds, which would take all day for a small area, they cut them with a machete just below soil level. That's better than hand pulling anyway, because sensitive mimosa has thorns and will slice your hand if you don't grip it just right.
Google "Hula Hoe" It has a flat bottom hoop that has a bit of pivot where it mounts to the handle. When you push forward the hoop tilts back so the front edge digs in, then pull back the hoop tilts the other way so that the back edge digs in. The push/pull action is quick and easy. The idea is to cut shallow to separate the root crown from the rest of the roots.
I am of the same mind. Humanity has lost touch with the natural world. I find nudism, and especially working in my garden or the great outdoors while nude is a very profound experience. I alsways sense the world and my personal insignificance. It's very humbling and also refreshing.
Don't know if this is exactly permaculture, but someone on another board retired to the Canary Islands because the area is very nude friendly.
He was offered a part time job on an organic farm and he stipulated that he would only take it if he could work nude, and was permitted to do so.
This comment is a large aside from the topic, to be sure.
Numerous posts in here have referenced the search engine Google for finding things out in the world of unknown, and besides using their map software I have not used Google in quite a few years. The business practices of Google in general are to sell your inquiries to the highest (and lowest) bidder. With so many quite satisfactory alternative search engines out there who claim - and by my experience, follow-through on their claim - to not sell anyone my data, I am curious what brings people coming back for more of the SOBS (same old bull shit) at Google with their uncomfortable-to-me tracking attitude.
There was I time when I loved telling people to GTS (Google That Shit) whenever something came up that we didn't know, but I have learned to stay away from 'TS' as much as possible - and I admit it can be challenging to do so. My search engines of choice are Duckduckgo.com (yeah, you've seen the commercials with that Police song) and Startpage.com. These both do quite well and I feel good about supporting them through my praise instead of Google. DGTS unless you want to be watched and unknowingly exploited. And that is not so unknowingly, now that you've read this.
For those who will suggest I'm followed everywhere I go anyway due to GPS, I don't use that noise unless under duress, aka I'm lost as hell and I don't want to stay at the Bates Motel again. My cellphone still flips.
Besides, saying to people DDGTS (Duck Duck Go That Shit) has almost as good a ring to it as GTS did!
Permaculture and nudism do go hand in hand. Both are ways to reconnect with nature. Being out in nature is therapeutic & uplifting. Being able to experience nature nude is even better because one feel more connected with his or her surroundings. Society forgets that we are part of nature & not superior to it. If we can't learn to co-exist with nature then we will slowly kill off mankind as a whole. We need plants and plants need us.

Your post has reminded me of a show that my honey and I watched last night, following me having to suffer through Sharknado 5 first! That was so silly/stupid - but the little lady was feeling easily-amused and we watched to the bitter end. The show after it was the first in a series of six by none other than Bill Nye called "The End is Nye" and it was both scary and funny, all about major disasters that man has created and how we can fix what we've started with the way we've abused Mother Earth. Every night for the next five they will be playing the other episodes and if you're bored with what you're doing you should watch it - on the SiFi channel at 10 pm or streaming on the Peacock. I haven't seen a network do something like this in a long time, offered more like a mini series.
When the show was wrapping, I so wanted it to keep going, knowing that Bill Nye's ideas on maintenance of the planet are solid and based on science at its best. We will be watching, naked of course, and I really hope you fellow gardeners will consider doing the same. His wit is excellent, and the way he isn't scared to kill himself off near the end is plain hilarious. Oops, there was a spoiler! If you can't laugh about something as terrifying as us losing the planet we live on due to stupidity, what can you laugh at?

Permaculture IMO is more aligned with nudism as it come to be practiced today as you point out. But naturism (pre modern day US nudis) mwith its focus on caring for the environment and engaging positively with the nature world including through always had permaculture element to it.
Yes, the philosophies of naturism and permaculture overlap. If you just consider that indigenous people do something like permaculture and also do something like naturism. They live together with nature not against nature.
Thats a great point indigenous people have been doing both longer than Europeans and Western culture. They simply didnt name as such it is just a part of their everyday life.
