Nude Gardeners
A group for fellow gardeners from around the world.
Winter's kickin' here!
Return to DiscussionsThis part of the northern hemisphere is finally settling into a persistent cool-down, the time when so many of my fellow nudist neighbors begin to bemoan the inability to be bare outside in general. Out in the yard for nearly an hour yesterday gave me a healthy dose of the chill, but December brings it on, and besides the lingering cold in my toes and fingers I came away invigorated for the season! A robe and pants and hat got me through it with the sun still working some warmth into my soul (and skin) underneath that dreaded fabric.
But what's left for the naked gardener to tend when the temps are tickling the teens at night? Having finally tossed a few seeds into the dirt of our emptied green bean bed sometime in October, the peas and radishes and cilantro do persist, with a tiny harvest of radishes last week giving our bought veggies in a salad a little kick of flavor, cilantro only an inch or two high but still hangin', pea plants getting along but with nary a bloom to view, ah well! Jalapeno has shot its wad and been removed, but made it all the way into late November; a promise of poppers still unrequited, those hot little green bullets still languishing on the counter un-addressed, but what's a vegetable going to do amongst all the other un(ad)-dressed things around! Three tiny but hearty rooted cuttings of basil do adorn the sunny piece of floor next to Oscar & Felix, and our indoor plants do make a little room so we can see how early next year we get to snack on those first homegrown leaves in a caprese. A long, intense winter is somewhat kept at bay with naked friends and family eating that summer salad treat.
Make the best of it, bare buddies! Any other stories from the late fall to share? Happy Christmas for those who do, and a grand winter for all!

Hey Wildwilly1, I feel your pain (so to speak). While living not that far from you, the weather here is usually very similar to what you experience. I failed to remember that I needed to winterize my camper until Sunday night. So I planned to do it Monday afternoon. However, I had an emergency arise and by the time I returned home, it was about 9 pm, dark and cold. As I pulled into the driveway, my wife joked with me and said I bet you won't be out here working on the camper naked tonight. I had to agree! By that time, it was about 29 degrees.
I am amazed at how I get cold while sitting inside with the thermostat set at 72, yet I will walk outside during the daytime when it is 60 and keep on going. I need to cut down all of my banana trees, dispose of them, and cover the stumps with mulch or pine straw to protect them during the cold. I normally complete this task under the warmth of the sunshine and while wearing my birthday suit. However, this cold we are experiencing this week is a little too much for me. As I went outside today to add air to my tires, I thought about going without clothes. But then I remembered a saying I've heard among the nudist community when questioned by textiles. Some people have asked nudists what they do when it's cold and the response is we put on clothes. We're nudists, not crazy!!! So I dressed up before I went outside.
One good thing you have going for you that I miss is the opportunity to socialize and still enjoy activities during the winter because something is happening there every weekend.
