Consider this - should we assume the poster is speaking of only male visitors around the dogs due to the fact that it is slightly more difficult to tell if a woman is aroused? The following is most assuredly a sexist comment, but some men find it hard to control themselves when they see a large "dog", regardless of whether it is on a human, canine or any other animal. And I'm sure there are women who might react similarly, even given the taboo nature of the thoughts that might incite the excitement being brought up here. Dogs of many breeds have a tendency to follow their hormones and pheromones instead of common sense and common decency. Depending on the company, no harm is done as long as no one begins to contemplate interspecific activities. Actions need not follow thoughts.
