Why do we have pubic hair anyway?

I have a theory, based on a sample of one - me :p) FYI: I'm not a naturally hairy person.
I tried shaving twice. After both times, I found that with just the bare minimum of physical exertion, I felt uncomfortably hot and sweaty in my nether region. I also created two great cases of jock itch, which required an over the counter cream to ease the pain.

Therefore: I conclude that a hairy crotch is our modern bodies evolutionary response to wearing underwear. The hair creates a buffer zone of air that keeps us cooler in our tighty-whities.

Bottom line: I'm going to be neatly trimmed verses wild and unabated growth.

What do you think?

Thats a good start.
Keep trimming and every time go a bit shorter and pretty soon you will be slick as a baby butt.
Then you will never be able to think why you didn't do it sooner.

Then again it is a pain in the butt to shave every other day..
Whatever makes you feel good, go with.

There is another answer, lose the tighty Whiteys.

I have been commando ( 3 years) for a lot longer than I've been shaving (3 months).

When I first started shaving I too had problems with sweat and rashes, but found that having a proper thorough rinse after shaving as well as washing before does the trick. I think that the normal face shaving foam I use is a bit strong for the sensitive areas.

Just do as I do and shave in the shower. That takes care of the thorough washing before and the rinse off after. You don't need to use any shaving cream/gel, as it won't stay on anyway under the stream from the showerhead. You can soap up to shave, or shave with just the water running over everything. With just the water running, there is not much need to stop and rinse out the razor, since it is being continuously rinsed by the water. I also shave my neck area at the same time with the same razor. What works for one, works for both. Give it a try sometime.

I understand the bumps and all after shaving. I use a razor and shaving cream rinse off after and I also apply a ingrown hair solution to it. I still have some bumps but not as bad as before and I also have gone commando. I think most of the bumps are from my work pants rubbing all day as I do a lot of movement. Just soak in water helps also. I love the clean shave feel and look on my lower region and legs. Have done the back end yet lol

My arms and legs are off limits. I'm that hairy that there's no way I could keep up. My chest and back are trimmed for me by Mar, and I shave "Sack and crack" and the groin area below my tummy, as well as my arm pits. Seems a liveable compromise.

I'd have to be completely sedated before even considering waxing

I started shaving my pubic area due to ED. In order to get a good seal from the erect aid the DR. recommended shaving. It didn't take long ane I was hooked. I have now been shaving for over ten years and it has expanded from just the scrotal area to from head including the top of my head to my toes. The only part I don't regularly shave is my arms. I use the shaving time as part of my alone time and love the feeling of the smooth and naked feeling I get from the smoothness. My bride has expressed over the years how she likes my smooth look.
So Whether you shave or don't it's up to your personal desire. For me naked means smooth.

Very correct. I believe the pubic hair provides a barrier so our skin does not directly rub and cause chafing. Sort of a dry lubricant. With over the counter products we can bypass the hair a bit and shave for pleasure, but we might still have the same problems.

I have never had much body hair and never suffered from chaffed skin. I shave my pubic area and between my legs and arm pits regularly. In the summer I include legs and arms so that the only hair I have is on my head. And I love the really nude feel. No comments from my art class when I pose naked for them!
