Naked Gardener not illigal

Return to Discussions

Last week I caught the end of something on the radio news while I was driving. A man was in court for being naked while gardening.

A couple of days later I heard that he'd been cleared of all charges.

That's great news to hear, but it doesn't mean I'm going to be going naked in our front garden any time soon. It may not be illegal, but it's certainly enough to get black-balled by the village. We've still got a very long way to go before I can do my front lawn naked.

(I wouldn't recommend using a strimmer (weed wacker) naked anyway. I ended up with a very nasty ankle infection)

Depends where you live. Here in Illinois there is no state law barring public nudity. But every city, town or village has some ordinance against public nudity. If they can see you they an cite you

This just shows how little the Police understand the nudity laws in England and nut reading the CPS information about public nudity and the law.

Interesting all the anti nudist comments are the only ones who have the thumbs down.

Its fantastic that technically, you can legally garden nude, but locally if the police don't like a law they can still be asses about it and make your life miserable with harassment.

It is very interesting case which one law which they might try to make a case over ' to cause harassment, alarm or distress' doesn't apply with 'article 10 rights are engaged because being naked is a form of expression' over rides this other law so is an important test case which has come out in favour of the nudist.
