Not sure how it is in a private home (and have wondered about this myself), but I can without a doubt say in a resort, it's not necessary. It's wonderful to be able to live life naturally and go about your normal, daily routine.

we cover up. decency requires we do so,we are nudists after all, and not sickos into shocking or exposing ourselves to strangers
In my opinion I think it is a beautiful thing to answer the door nude; caution, because some states have indecent exposure laws that cover that "I'm in the privacy of my home". If you are seen from across the street nude and someone feels offended you will be turned in.There's an ancedote of a man that his blinds open for the most part and from time to time answered his door nude. All it took was for a lady; walking her dog, to see him naked and at the same time see children in the vicinity for him to get charged for indecent exposure. In some cases they talk of sex offender chargesI personally would have like a small privacy wall near the entrance of my home. The idea of answering the door nude is awesome
It's easy ... just conceal your body behind the door. I've done it, it allows you to stay nude, if you prefer, ... and not impose your nudity onto someone that isn't expecting it or doesn't care to see it! Manners and respect are really very easy!

We've never been a part of the, "My home, my rules," movement. It always seemed a bit belligerent. Besides, our parents taught us respect for others. The US/Fed Ex/pizza delivery driver may nor say anything, but they may still be offended. Of course, they don't have much of a choice.
It only takes one person to report you and then the neighbors wonder why a police car is in front. Especially, if any kids area round. We always have a little something handy to cover up. It only takes me like 10 seconds to toss on my t-shirt and shorts. Besides, if they're selling something then they are invading my privacy and can wait a few seconds.

You are right that being nude my offend some but him or her maybe a nudist also. I should know since I am one. I am a package delivery drive who is a nudist. I have answered the door naked with a coworker delivering to me. One time I hide behind door but saw my bare side. He was cool and did not have a problem with it. One other time was a new driver who was bothered by me wearing the towel I was sitting on. He told other coworkers how guy it looked. I told him later next time I will answer nude and leave the towel on the couch.LOL He is coworker who has my phone number. No hiding behind the door when he deliver next time when I am off and at home. I wonder what he will tell our coworkers then? LOL I don't care. I have invited some to join me at a Korean bathhouse/spa.
In many ways it is ridiculous that you cannot choose to be nude within your own home without having seal every gap in the windows. Apart from our kitchen and bathroom which has frosted glass anyway all our rooms have blinds and apart from the living room they all have curtains as well.
Personally, I would not answer a door in the nude, but it is ridiculous to have to cover every crack to make sure no one is peeking in.
When you answer a door in the nude, you are directly in an interaction and in nearly close personal space with the other person and they may not have expected it and probably would not have wanted it to occur. I see that most of those answering the door nude are guys and generally that is more unacceptable to the average person on the street who may be at your door. Many guys would probably be thrilled if an attractive female answered the door nude. But given the situation where guys won't even undress in front of each other in the gym, answering the door nude usually will not go over well. Just because they have to remain "professional" at your door doesn't mean it was in any way pleasant. Nudism should not be about shoving it in someone else's face.
However, covering all the cracks is another issue. There comes a place where if you don't want to see it, don't look. And seeing thru cracks to see someone nude seems to have been an active attempt to see. It is not hard to realize that someone may be nude if you are looking in their window from a distance and stop looking!
In the end ... we'll all do what we do, do what is comfortable and be as "daring" as we want to be ... and no one's going to change that, especially here on a website message board.
Do what is right for you and lets hope that it all works out positively. If not, it was your choice to answer your front door as you wanted and it is you that reaps the benefits or suffers the consequences. What I do think is important is that when doing so and law enforcement arrives and you are questioned by a news reporter ... it would be appreciated if you would say ... "I'm a nudist, I'm always nude at home and I answer my door naked all the time. That's how "I" do it, not all nudists agree with it."
