Nudist : Religious, Spiritual or Atheists

I am a born Hindu Indian, but an atheist since a long time. As far as I know of all the religion, nudity is a taboo with most of them. If you're a nudist, I take it that you are somewhat disagreeing with what is written in our religious books.
What most of you consider yourself as? Religions, Spiritual or Atheist?
Aghoris, Jainis, yes I agree they are Nudist, and that it has been since centuries. But then there is no room for females to practise nudism. Last a Brazilian women bared her clothes in Kumbh, she was arrested. So, is our religion giving freedom only to men?
I'm a Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist, and so consider myself as an
Atheist yet have the uttermost respect and veneration for all religions. And even though I revere and respect my religion, I consider
Buddhism to be more of a great life philosophy than a religion in the
strictest sense. And as far as nudism is concerned, I'm inclined to
agree with you all, because Buddhism too has got nothing to do with
nudism. But Lord Buddha has taught us to focus more on principals, than
on material things and I have to say that I find the principals of
nudism to be very much aligned with my own religion. This is because
nudism too promotes a sense of equality and brotherhood among all human
beings, and inspires to judge people only for what they do, and not
based upon what they look like.
Buddhism is a very radical
religion, especially during the age when it first came about, and I
believe nudism too has, always been a very progressive lifestyle. This
is actually kind of ironic when you think about it, since we were all
naked during our earliest evolution upon this world. And it's one thing
to say that people wore clothes because they were cold, which is quite
valid and logical, but it's another thing entirely to say that they
continue to wear it even in tropical countries like ours, purely out of
mutual fear, shame or guilt. Who are we afraid of, each other? Why? And
although many people would find it unbelievable, nudism is actually the
perfect antidote to the social and misogynistic issues in our societies.
And
I think naturism too share these common and beautiful truths in its
core beliefs if you don't mind me saying, even though it can favor a
more spiritual side than nudism. I'm not an experienced naturist myself
so forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe that it treats all living
things as being the same, and calls us to bind with nature and support
it. Lord Buddha too was very keen to let his disciples bond with nature
and animals, letting them to wander off, mediate and live with nature in
far-away forests and caves for extended periods of time. So all religions and progressive lifetstlyes may share universal truths among them, I believe. And of course, even
though we call him Lord only out of sheer reverence, he too always
strived to emulate himself to be just a normal human being like any
other, and that actually is partly why I'm an atheist myself, since I
consider himself to have been only another human like myself, nothing
more or less. And on a more personal note as well, I do find doing
meditation for a long time to be much more comfortable when in the nude,
and I'm sure a lot of practicing yogi and yoginis would agree on this
too.

Nudism = True Salvation!
I was brought up as an evangelical Christian. Nudism was shunned even thought the bible starts with Adam and Eve totally naked, and happy till they ate the forbidden fruit. Later in life my wife and I got so fed up with the double standards of the "Christians" around us that we became born-again atheists (evangelical Christians will recognise part of that phrase). Now I'm free to be my naked self.

You do know that there is a difference between a naturalist and a naturist, right?
I am Christian, spiritual and not particularly religious. There are differences there, too. Unlike most Christians, I think, the Bible says nothing about the body being shameful, the nudity of it causing others to lust or that nudity is a sin. I understand that they be offended by nudity, and they may try to justify their offense with the Bible, ideology, religion or whatever, and that is fine. I really don't care what they think.
The problem with atheists is that they are often mean in America and want to force others to disbelieve in God. Agnostics, on the other hand, just don't care.
To each their own; I reckon. All that really matters to me is that I am right with God each day.
I am part of the liberal protestant group where nudity is not an issue. It is not sometime that is part of our beliefs, but nudity is not shunned if practiced while respecting others beliefs. So being nude at a nude beach or nude resort is not an issue as well as a group of nudist friends hang out at your house.
The bible is full of nude stories where being naked was not wrong. King David danced in the plaza naked. The disciples fished naked and were not ashamed.
I know for some very conservative Christians, being naked is a problem. One guy I chatted with would be reported to his church if he was naked even with his wife except in the dark when he was procreating. Now that is just wrong.
We believe that the human body was created by God and it is good. Why do we need to hide it?

A discussion that has Ecumenical ramifications. Would be neat if we could all get together for a roundtable discussion and dialogue. Naked of course:-)
JimShorts.........we arent debating here. Everyone from every possible religion does interpret their religious teachings in thier own way. Some are moderate some very radical and then some who dont really care. As u only said, to each his own. I again reiterate that nudism has nothing to do with religion.
Religious people believe that religion and/or spirituality have a lot to do or everything to do with most or all areas of their lives. I know that it is true of me. Also, nudity and its relationship to sin and other things are discussed in many religious texts and in many pulpits, so one cannot say they have nothing to do with one another. Certainly they do sometimes and in some places for some people. I'm just saying that your statement, "Nudism has nothing to do with religion," is at least a generalization if not an overstatement.
