Naked At Home - 2014 / 2024 -
For people who like to be naked in the house...
Winter and fireplaces
Return to DiscussionsI have an ethanol fireplace in my library/guest room. The last couple of mornings have been lighting it for an hour or two. We have hot water radiant floor, and heat the house to 80F which is just so comfortable in cold weather.
Must be expensive to have a house that warm in Canada in the winter!
Natural gaz is cheaper than electricity to run our furnace. There is 5 inches of concrete on top of the radiant water pipes, and the floors and walls of the foundation are well insulated with closed cell spray foam (urethane) and so the floors hold the heat and radiate it. Best heating for our cold winters. We did that Reno in 2019. If we compare, it costs the same to heat 2 floors with natural gas as it did to heat one floor with electricity, so can't complain and take full advantage of it.
