Shift and .400 hitter?

Return to Discussions

Could the elimination of a third infielder on the right side of the infield get us a .400 hitter? Think of all the times Freddie Freeman and Bryce Harper were thrown out by second baseman 10 yards in front of the right fielder. Now eliminate each of those. Could be exciting. Also, I hate the elimination of the shift and I hate power baseball. I would much rather see a single stretched into a double, a double streched into a triple, a base runner thrown out by an outfield or trying to do so. I think the games of five or six home runs are boring. The shift has done nothing yet but point out the weakness in modern hitters. Of course I know they are now facing 95 and up at each of their plate appearances, not facing a gassed starter in their third and fourth at bats like they might have been 20 years ago but who would argue that 2022 baseball was better than 1982 baseball?
