Male London Socials
Do you find NM events too sexual? We are the alternative. We are a community of friendly naturists (identifying as he/him or AMAB) who meet every month for a purely social gathering with pot luck food. If you are nervous as you are starting out or have to be careful because of work, then message us. The e mail is in Rules section under 'About' tab.
Socials - food and drink tips
Return to DiscussionsOver about 16 years now, we have found the pot luck system works
remarkably well. We have some vegetarians and one or two vegans, so
as the latter often bring what they need, a veggie offering is
simplest for most as it also avoids the problem foods for our
Jewish, Muslim and Hindu friends. A veggie meal once in a while
won't hurt you! The Ealing (near Hanger Lane) venue is a vegetarian household so
it would be offensive to take meat or fish products there.
At Highgate and other hosts may suggest their food options) we will have a full range
of foods and segregate the meat and fish items.
Starters and nibbles are often veggie without thinking about it
(samosas, bhajis, nuts, crisps, tacos and salsas) cakes, sweets and
'afters' (cheese, grapes, chocolate nuggets, mini rolls, fruit
cakes, trifles etc.) also work fine for veggies.
There is a risk that one gets a lot of nibbles humous, olives and
sweets/ cakes, but people often bring pizzas, ciabatta / french bread and cheese (we get too much
of that) / grapes, and rarely bean casseroles, curries and veggie
chillis / lasagne, pastas or the like. If you are short of
inspiration some sandwiches or wraps can suffice. At Highgate
we will have all food types AS LONG AS OUR VEGGIE ORGANISERS DO NOT
HAVE TO HANDLE IT! We will therefore need helpers to sort and
segregate pot luck offerings and cook them without contaminating
the veggie offerings. We 'zone' the buffet table.
PLEASE DO NOT REACH FOR THE SHOP BOUGHT QUICHES (and after 4/16
sausage rolls and cocktail sausages!) when they arrive and are put
out they are almost invariably left! Home made has worked but the
general trend has been to make it a 'quiche free zone' unless you
are very good at home made ones.
***** Generally, people buy too much food. Please think about
whether you could eat , in quantity terms, what you bring!

If you are likely to join us for the latter part of the evening -
just bring drink as the buffet will be over.
On the drink side, people tend to under-estimate, but not badly so.
If you bring some beers, think "Are they the number you might drink
yourself?" On the wine front, it does tend to go faster than one
expects and sometimes fruit juice could be in greater abundance.
Perhaps bring a bottle and a carton?
We hope that helps! C, G & F
