NUDE IN THE LOCKER ROOM
Return to DiscussionsIv been a locker room nudist since high school.... showers were mandatory and we had to walk from our locker to the showers nude, after our shower we walked to the end of the 100-foot long locker room to the towel-rack to pick up a dry towel, and then back to our locker. There were 200 naked guys in each gym class, 1200 guys in the school, so after four years of showering every day of the school year....Being nude with hundreds of other guys was no big deal.
For a time when I was in college, the locker room was almost my only outlet for social nudity. I'd go to the gym 3 days a week on average and after a workout would take my time in the open showers and sauna. There were "sauna regulars" with whom you'd strike up conversations.
went through junior high and high school with gang showers, i still remember the first time after being outside and the coach yelling ok hit the showers and all of us 12 year olds heading into the locker room and nervously stripping off our gym clothes and treking nude to the showers no dividers and no curtains. after a few days it was no big deal and actually enjoyed being nude with others.
Yes.....the good old days ! In high school in Michigan we (the boy's gym class) would swim nude and shower nude as a group all Winter long. There were about 30-35 of us in my class. It was too cold for any outside activities, so it was either the basketball court inside or the heated pool for months at a time. I've wondered if any schools still do it that way or have they clamped down these daysbecause of conservative paranoia?
I love being naked in the locker room. We had open showers in 7th and 8th grade for 25 to 30 of us at a time. Showers were actually mandated! The physical education teacher stood at the open shower room and checked off our names as we either went in or out. Sometimes he'd yell at a kid to spend more time and remember to use soap. We had bars of soap we all shared. The year before, when in the 6th grade was when I started showering naked with other boys and I found it awkward and uncomfortable at first. Nudity wasn't practiced in my home and I got nervous about it. I got erections and so did others sometimes. But friends were there and we all got through it like a rite of passage. By the 7th grade and especially in the 8th I began to really enjoy that time naked with others. We joked a lot in there and the camaraderie was great.Showers were not mandatory in high school but we always did take themandwe hadall open gang showers. They built a huge addition on our school with four basketball courts side by side and a hug locker room where the lockers were at one end and then a big open area was between the locker area where we all dressed and undressed and a big open shower that must have had 20 shower heads. Everything was public and exposed and I think it promoted a healthy culture for same sex nudity. By 11th and 12th grade we used to have a good time, singing and soaping up together. I think kids have really missed an important experience in the last 25 or so years that gang showers have been on the decline. High school kids, even team athletes go home in uniforms and shower at home! I had the opportunity to see my high jr. high school locker rooms a few years ago and saw that the showers were dusty and filled with equipment. There is no showering at all at that age. The gym I currently go to has private cubicle showers and since it caters to a young 20's to 30's age there is a great deal of modesty in the locker room. They struggle to stay covered while they change. As I said in another group comment here, I actually saw two young guys step into their separate private shower stalls in their underwear, one in boxers, one in briefs and then a few minutes later step out in now soaking wet boxer shorts and briefs, towel off and thenI watched stunned as they put pants on over their wet underwear and left. That is extreme avoidance of public nudity. But yes, I love being naked in the locker room.
At my school there was no swimming pool and no showers. We changed for sports and PE four times a week in the big public boy's locker room. It was no big deal being naked - no towel dance and we just got on with it. We changed quickly in the winter as the locker room was unheated. These days it hardly matters to me that there is no privacy. Everyone disregards the gender split when changing for a nudist swim or sauna. We will be naked together anyway. But it was disregarded at my swimming lessons this summer too, with women wandering through the men's changing room as I was stood naked drying myself.
I am curious to hear comments from guys in their 20's and 30's about their experience with locker room nudity. I know people on here will probably have a relaxed attitude because members are usually either interested in nudity or practicing nudity. But I wonder if younger guys can comment on their perceptions of the towel dancers and guys who stay completely covered all the time. Is it an age thing? Do young guys feel strange being nude with others their own age? Is it a feeling of competition? I have strong opinions on where I think it comes from and others have already commented here on stranger danger training and the fears parents have for their children. But I wonder what young guys think about all this.
I am curious to hear whether girls had similar experiences in school locker rooms. Female friends have told me they did not like being nude with other girls in the locker room but I don't know if this feeling was shared by other girls/women. If so what changed with the women as they got older that led to more relaxed feelings about nudity? Are female locker rooms commonly nude? Do they do the towel dance too?
Like many, I grew up from Middle School into college where you were seen nude by everyone in your gym class, or by the guys living on your dorm floor. Except for college, all the showers were gang showers with poles where the shower heads were mounted. Back in the 80's we were required to shower after gym class. That and we were also required to wear a jockstrap. If you didn't wear one your grade in the class would reflect that. Once, our gym teacher had all the guys stand in a line, and he actually pull out the back of our shorts to see if we were wear our jocks. Can you imagine what would happen if a teacher did that today?! Sad in many ways.
Same exact experience here. All gang showers and open nudity in the locker rooms from the time I was 13 until college. The dormitory I stayed in for a weekend for my freshman college orientation had gang showers. The one I ended up living in for several years had separated showers but we were frequently nude in the bathroom. The athletic field house had locker rooms for the college athletes with gang showers and guys were nude all the time. It also had a separate locker room with gang showers for the swimming pool and for general student use and I remember it had urinals with no partitions right at the shower entrance, so not only were men exposed to each other at the urinals but to the guys showering. I think they were placed so men could run in from the pool and relieve themselves without having to go through the locker area. This may have been the case but there was no design for privacy of any kind and men used them all the time. When I was much younger, on the first day of physical education class in junior high middle school the teacher lined us all up andheld upa jockstrap. He explained what it was for and told usa jock wasrequired if you wanted to pass the class. Most of us had come with one that day, since we were told to bring one, but if we didn't have one wewere to get one by the next time the class met. He also lined us up and checked to see we wore them. The gang showers were mandatory and we were marked downfor not showering. I can't imagine a high school or middle school teacher today being allowed to check for jockstraps or to make showers mandatory. But more importantly, as a person who enjoys nudity and being naked with others in a locker room, I think guys are missing a very pleasurable bonding experience with the lack of locker roomnudity with their peers. I wonder if they will ever be relaxed with their own nudity or their own body even in private. It all seems sad to me. But maybe they think men standing and walking around nude and showering in the open are exposing themselves, rather than just using locker rooms for what I think they are designed for in the first place.
