Locker Room Nudists

People that go totally naked in the locker room without the need to hide themselves with a towel.

Cultural differences in different gyms

Return to Discussions

I just switched from the Y to a local gym. When I was in Y,
lots of people are o.k. to be fully naked when changing or sitting
in the steam room. Perhaps it's because they are older people
(when I usually went early in the morning) and/or it's a communal
shower there. Now switching to a new gym, most people (a lot of
young guys, but even the older ones) wrapped themselves from waist down with a
towel walking around everywhere, they have partitions in between
showers, most people sit in the steam room with towel covering.
I even see some towel dance that I never saw in the Y locker
room.

Nevertheless, when I usually stand at the sink fully naked shaving, brushing my
teeth etc. I find that as I do that, some people tend to take
off their towel and go naked too.

Have you been to different gyms? Do you have the same
observation as mine?

RE: Cultural differences in different gyms

I have noticed the movement catering to the modest male in our society. However, I have noticed as i do not change my behavior in the locker room, other men are more comfortable dropping their towels too. I think most of us prefer to be naked, but don't want to be the only one or the first one. I have posted else where the story of a guy who came into the steam room wearing his speedo (the gym had no pool). I was sitting nude in the corner (on a towel). He came in and sat down. Then he noticed me. We greeted each other. He immediately stood up and pulled off his speedo. He sat down on his little black suit and we continued our conversation. I think he just didnt want to be the first one. I am happy to be that in any modest man's life. :)

I have seen a guy from Y that he would wear a swimming trunk even in a communal shower. I have never seen him fully naked, even everybody else is naked in the shower.
Also, in the communal shower area, there are two shower stall with curtain. I never understand why people would shower in there, while some are fully naked and they don't close the curtain!
Human behaviour is difficult to understand sometimes!!!

Yes it's true that culture is changing and that younger men are often more comfortable as the second naked man than the first. Call it image awareness and self consciousness rather than modesty. At times I wonder if younger men would feel more comfortable with naked shaving, etc, it they know that 1) everyone is not looking at them or cares much 2) no one is posting any any pix or comments online and 3) they always have a choice and don't need to fit in re nudity or clothes and deal with repercussions.
