Renting chairs and umbrellas / Good hotel ?
Return to DiscussionsHello,
I come with my wife, from Belgium, to visit NY in August! :)
Having read lot of great comments, we would like to spend one or two days at Gunnison Beach.
So, few questions:
- Is it possible to rent chairs and umbrella ?
- Is it easy to find an hotel nearby ?
- If yes, is there a shuttle from hotels to the beach ?
- If no, we would sleep in Manhattan and come with Ferry. Easy to do ?
Any advice is welcome.... Eager to be there !!!
Thanks all !
Seb :)
Unfortunately, Gunnison Beach is in an area where an automobile is a necessity. I don't know what is the policy of car rental companies, as for a foreigner's driver's license. It is a very long walk from the ferry to Gunnison Beach. Gunnison is far out on the peninsular, while to close by Sandy Hook beaches are textiler.
So,
If I understand well, not possible to hire chairs and umbrellas, glups :'(
I come from Philadelphia with a renting car, going to visit NY (without this car)
Would you advice to:- Keep the car one day more, have an hotel near Gunnison Beach- Buy cheap umbrella (and give it to someone when we leave)
or
- Have a hotel in Manhattan and take the ferry, then shuttle to Gunnison Beach ?
Thanks, Seb
One guy said it's a long walk from the ferry, another says take the shuttle. I'd send an email to the ferry service and ask about the shuttle schedule since there are two conflicting responses.
I had written you before, I think the car rental is the better choice. If you are renting a car in Philly and want to stay in that area Sandy Hook is about a 2 hour drive. But I still suggest going to Red Bank (in Monmouth County, not south Jersey). I am sure you will find nice resturants, and like the river front park. The car ride from Red Bank to Gunnison is about 20 minutes; and if you are interested you can go to Liberty State Park in Jersey City and go to the Statue of Liberty. Compare the hotel price in NYC against Red Bank. There is a train in Red Bank that will take you to Penn Station, NYC in about an hour.
