Self sufficiency and Straw bale house

Return to Discussions

HI all, we're planning on becoming as self sufficient as possible and building our own straw bale house. This isn't going to happen for a while, probably a couple of years as we're still looking for the ideal piece of land to accommodate the various needs. If anyone is into this type of thing or specializes in power generation (preferable water turbines/wheels), water treatment, food growing, animal husbandry, woodland management etc etc then please share your knowledge as we have a lot to learn.
We have been resident here in France for 12 years now and have been growing veggies for a while and renovated our own house so have quite a lot of good DIY skills including electrics, plumbing, roofing etc Pans are pretty much finalized for our new dwelling. We plan to have a basement to accommodate a large 15,000 ltr hot water tank (heat sink) and food storage etc. The hous eitself is designed for just 2 people although we are planning to build a large garage/store with accommodation over in the first stage to be our base for the major build.
Anyone interested in what we're planning or have anything to add or suggest then I would be very happy to build up a discussion. We may also be looking for some help when the time comes so if you have skills/labour to offer in return for great food and a nice all over tan just let us know. We will be doing the build nude as much as is practicable although stout boots for foot protection will be a must.
Look forward to hearing form you.
Naked hugs, Paul & Bev

Hello "paul29690". Something else to think about when you build your home is all the cleaners that you will use on/in it as well as the possibility of making your own soap and candles. [ See my posts under the "Cleaner living" area]. IF you would like more details, please let me know. I have been doing both for MANY, MANY years now, and have dedicated rooms in my home for them.
