Fuerteventura
A group dedicated to the Canary Island of Fuerteventura (Spain). An island of outstanding natural beauty where nudism is very tolerated except in the main resort beaches, the island is becoming increasingly popular with nudists of all ages. Nudist hotspots, the vast expanse of beaches in the dunes of Corralejo, El Cotillo and the beaches of the Jandia peninsula.
Nudity Tolerance
Return to DiscussionsNudism is tolerated in Fuerteventuraalmost everywhere, as long as you are not right in front of thge big Hotels. This is practical, however we prefer the nude beaches where everybody is naked. In Fuerte, you sometimes dont know if it is appropriate to take off the swim suit.

The only time I take off a swimsuit on Fuerte is when I return to a my room in a textile hotel after enjoying the sun on the roof terrace.
On a beach I am always naked, having walked there naked from the apartment patio (video here)..
Tolerated in Butihondo beach in the south....... Jandia, also on Correlejo. You can walk along the beach to Esquinzo nude all the way. Sometimes there you are outnumbered, just keep walking lots of exclusively nude areas but no one has ever said cover up. I stayed in Fuerteventura Princess and walked the beach daily. I thought the hotel had a nudist area but that has ceased. You can be naked in the nudist sauna however.

I should add that in practice you can walk naked past the two hotels on the Corralejo beach without problems, provided you stay near the waterline.
I have been naked every time I walked the length of the Grandes Playas and never been asked to cover up, not that I could have done as I had no clothing with me.

We've walked past them naked too, as with you we carried no clothing and never had a problem. We saw a few others walking nude there too, staying near the waterline as mentioned is good advice when near hotels, but elsewhere you can be nude anywhere on the beaches and often inland from them without it being an issue. As public nudity is legal in most of Spain it shouldn't be a problem if you want to be naked outside, beyond the major built up areas and your behaviour is of a generally accepted nudist kind. Where we've seen nudists have a few problems were when they were naked in mixed nude and textile situations and they behaved as if they felt they were in the wrong by attempting to cover themselves up. I think that if you are confident when naked in such situations you are unlikely to draw extra attention to yourselves, its as if covering up sends out a signal that you think it might be wrong to be nude in public, when in fact it is perfectly OK. Watching the video linked to above by johngw illustrates well how we've also found textile tolerance of our preference to be nude in places where we're the only people naked. It is wonderful to stay in locations like that where you can go out as naked as you intend to be for your time on the beach, not even footwear.
Fuerteventura is well-known for attracting nudists, most people know that they will see us around the island if they venture out much. The Canary Islands make a good bit of money out of nudists, if we have good and varied experiences there we're likely to recommend them to other nudists, its in their interests to accept that we'll want to be naked there. We've hiked nude on both Fuerteventura and Lanzerote away from the more widely-known nude beaches. Sometimes for 10 Kms or more and never had a problem if others have seen us naked. We've made many visits to the islands, to the major nudist locations and the smaller islands too, we've been nude while hiking on La Gomera and El Hierro and always found some great beaches to be naked on on all of the Islands we've been to - all of the main ones.
