Living alone with a dog
Return to DiscussionsMany puppy owners put the dog in a cage overnight. It will keep her safe and might help you to sleep.
I agree with Clothing Optional, much better than leaving a pup in the laundry room alone overnight.
Plus with the cage, as puppy gets older, you can leave the door open. And puppy feels safe in the cage, whenever you have vet appointments too. Multiple wins.
If pup has trouble settling, try adding a ticking clock next to their bedding. The ticking sound, is similar to their mother and siblings heart beats. It could soothe them.
Also like other puppy training, suggest using the word 'sleep' for overnight sleeping. As many use 'bed', instead of 'mat' for day time use. They learn to assosiate the word, with the act.
Note, any strange sounds night or day and your dog will normally bark and/or growl. Which may wake you, if you're in sync with your fur baby. You get to know each dogs different barks. They sound different. There's a warning/alert bark, a play bark and sometimes an aggressive warning bark, usually with some growling or just deep growling.
Just as human parents do as their baby starts to cry, when the parents are asleep. Parents learn the different crying sounds of their baby.
