Leading with naked vulnerability
Return to DiscussionsThere's a side of nudism that proudly asserts "Woo-hoo I'm here, balls and all!" There is another aspect which focuses on the humanity, the vulnerability, the stark naked truth of having nothing to hide behind. It is that humble nature of nudism which needs to be claimed in this time of discord and civil unrest following the death of George Floyd.
It's easy to point fingers and blame others, but that only creates further mistrust and otherness. We all need to acknowledge the systemic racism in the US and find compassionate ways to address them. I myself am white, priviledged and sheltered from the suffering through racism that many Americans of color know on a daily basis, but don't want this to be an excuse for blissful ignorance. I recognize that being pro-diversity is not enough in society needing anti-racism.
And what does that mean practically? I'm not so sure. But I know that nudism has taught me to view people as their naked and truthful selves. As a man, I also believe that this understanding comes more intuitively and naturally to woman. At times like these, I believe it's more important to show up than to offer any platitudes, and I'm grateful to this community to show up with me. So balls and cock out, we are vulnerable, and that vulnerability also helps us to find courage for the brotherhood.

I've seen a lot more of my nude and queer friends step up to ask how I'm doing, and I think it's because they understand fighting an uphill battle more than my cis straight textile friends. I feel like they're not used to discussing adversity and perhaps don't know what to say or do.
It's hard to be vulnerable at this time for me because I feel so raw everyday. Not just from the lives lost and protests, but also because of COVID-19 and losing my grandma last year. I need more time with my friends but now I get less. I hope there's still a summer left once the restrictions have been lifted because I need some sun on my naked body and some boding with my nude and textile friends.

Please accept my condolences over the loss of your grandmotherand your need for bonding. The next time you meet friends, think of the most nurturing and calming memory of your grandmother and be that to your brothers. Good luck.

I think in this instance it isn't so much skin tone as much as empathy and acknowledgment of my experience. Maybe being nude together lends to more empathy because as you said we all have the same parts. I think if everyone is committed we can do the same clothed. If we wanted to.
