Used book stores
Return to DiscussionsI spend lots of time secluded in used book stores, sometimes upstairs, sometimes in basements, often alone. With the ease of taking a selfie with time delay and an extendable arm, it's only a matter of time before I post one here. I'm already thinking of telling the woman who runs the store of my plan. If she agrees, I'll ask her to 1) prevent unsuspecting shoppers from coming upstairs for a few minutes and 2) ask her to lock the door and photograph me herself, possibly with a selfie for her.
Progress report: I visited the shop today. There was someone else upstairs with me the whole time. I built a relationship with the woman who runs the place (she's not the owner). She was agreeable to my taking selfies upstairs, but I have to give a day's notice and then arrive at closing time (6 PM). She was not interested in taking the pictures herself. I'll try to entice her to let me do a face to face with her when I'm there. I'm thinking of taking a picture on the stairs anyway.
I did the bookshop today. I still haven't learned to smile while doing a selfie, but after a few attempts, I got what I wanted. The picture is in my profile for now. There were other shoppers until the last minute. To entice their departure, she turned off the lights upstairs. While I had planned on doing pictures in several places, I had to position myself opposite the window to see anything. She had also made it clear that she didn't want to be involved in the photography. Earlier in the day I was in a gallery alone, and could have taken some shots. I'll find more places, and maybe someone to hold the camera.
