My nude salutation to a nude saint

Return to Discussions

In India, there was a culture of linking nudity with spirituality. Nudity is not only sexual but sacred also. Just 2 days back I went to meet with a nude saint - known as naga sanyasi. when I reached his cave, he was being offered food by two of his followers who were clothed. I reached there and took off all my cloths. And I sat on my kneel infront of him to show my respect - which is an Indian way of showing respect.

The followers were taken aback ...they did not expect this. I told them what can be a better offering to a nude saint? other than a nude salutation?

yah...perhaps. Once I was doing a meditation in nude...under a tree in a jungle. Few villagers were passing by. they saw me and folded their arms towards me, which is also an Indian way of greeting.

@Jabbari,
India has a culture of looking into nudism through a lens of spirituality. One cult - Jainsm has two segments known as Shwetambar and Digambar. Shwetambar are the devotees who are clad in white cloth while Digambar means Cloud clad or naked. In that cult nudity was accepted as a sign of spiritual uplift. But now a days one can hardly find a real digambar saint.

I have always felt that nudity is very much connected to spirituality!
There is something more when I meditate naked. Has anyone else experienced that?

THanks, Suhritnew, for sharing all about this. It's fascinating and I'm enjoying learning all about it. And yes, I've always felt a connection between nudity and spirituality, and it makes a huge difference in my meditation if I'm skyclad! Great conversation and sharing going on here!!!

n indian spirituality, Lord Shiva is an important form for worship. and he is naked or wears tiger skin. Shiva Lingam is widely worshiped. Lingam means penis. The form of this Shiva Lingam is also very interesting. In this symbolic formation one can see a penis coming out of a vagina. It symbolizes eternal coitus , which mean the continuous process of creation.

Being a nudist, I am a Shiva worshiper also. And I experienced a feeling of oneness with nature when I had nude meditation in nature. Sometimes I get my pic in nude meditation. I saw that this pic helps me in recalling that experiences easily.
Sharing few such pic with you all.
