Petition
Return to DiscussionsI am going to try to put together a petition to present to the City Council of Naples and the County of Collier for a designated area for Nude Recreation and Sunbathing on a portion of beach along the Gulf of Mexico coast in Collier County. So if anyone here has any suggestions of a reasonable location, please help me out. Also, I could use some help with some of the legal stuff. To get proper backing, I should contact ANNR for their input. I know they were supporting the folks that were trying to get a nude beach in Key West.
I support the idea. Location, location, location, is always the problem. What about renting one of the places on keewayden. Of course now we are talking money vs state land. Wondering if there is maybe someone with land off the water inland? I like the idea, thinking keewayden would be a hard sell but you never know?
I took a trip to Keewaydin the other day and as always, it looked abandoned. I anchored out and waded in and wondered around for a little while. I didn't see anyone or another boat on the North end. To the South, the only activity I saw was around Marco Island. I'm thinking Keewaydin might be our best bet for getting a section designated as a nude beach. Most of the homes are from the center to the South end of the Island. The North end may be our best bet. I'm sure we would have to keep well enough South of Gordon's Pass so as not to upset the non-nudists and prevent Gawkers. It would be nice to know if any of our Collier County Officials are Nudists and if we could interest them into supporting a Nude Beach.
Without all the info on your location I am not sure just where you walked on the Keewaydin but I am guessing from the Gulf side. Even though it looks like there are no houses there and no property owners and even though the beach is all sate property you need to check the East side of the island as there are lots of docks with either people owning or leasing the land and the strips are cut through the island across it East to West. So on the Gulf side it looks like abandoned beach property but if you walk in through the brush you may find cut out picnic or camping areas and docks on the East side of the island. I was on the intercoastal yesterday from Marco to Naples and there are dozens of New Docks this year.
