Return to DiscussionsHey all! I am a "most for my money shopper". Thought I would let everybody know about the kayaks I just received. I was looking around and thought I would go for the cheapest kayak because I wouldn't use one a lot. After comparing and pricing I spent two months waiting for the "right price". The kayak I wanted was not the cheapest. For about $35 more,(sale price)I got a Sun Dolphin Bali 10. That model has a higher back seat support, adjustable foot supports and pads on each side where the riders legs would rest. It also has a sealed compartment with a lid between the leg area, a cup holderanda side pocketon each side. There is front cargo storage and rear sealed storage. The neat thing about the rear storage is that it is an entire separate removable unit. If one needs more storage space the unit can be towed behind and you use the place the unit sits in as extra storage! At Dick's the same kayak is $400. I checked into a Walmart email ad and it was priced at $235 with free shipping!!! I bought 2! They just arrived. To topthe dealoff, the paddles are included in my order; they are worth an addition $35!!! If anyone is thinking about buying a kayak, I think this is a sweet deal!

yes a great deal , when buying a kayak or canoe do the research and read all the reviews as they are pumping out them as fast as people can buy them. of course it all depends what you plan to use them for also, the main thing i look for as how well it tracks and comfort.
I've been watching Craig's List all summer but haven't run across what I'm looking for so gave up a few days ago and started researching new boats. I finally ordered one today but I think it may be more boat than I want. I wanted 13' to 14' but ended up with 15'. And I wanted something 50 lbs or less and ended up with 57 lbs. But mainly I wanted something for open water chop and speed with a skeg for good tracking and also decent storage.... without breaking the bank. I think (I hope) I got all that. It's a Perception Expression 15. Does anyone else here have one? Or ever paddled one? It's supposed to be here in 10 - 16 days so I still have plenty of time to change my mind and cancel. I just got tired of shopping and figured I wouldn't be able to do much better by continuing soooooo... my finger twitched and -boom- somehow I must have hit the order button. I've read quite a few reviews but I'd also like to hear from anyone here who may know something (anything) about this particular boat.
Okay, this is just an update and abbreviated review of my boat in
case someone else may be looking at buying one. It's a Perception
Expression 15'. I have just a small amount of paddling time
with it now so my mind may still change. But so far I'm loving this
boat. I ordered it sight unseen thru West Marine with the
understanding that if I didn't like it when I saw it, I could walk
away without paying for it. Shipping was free to my local West
Marine store.
I'm about 5'10" and about 170 lbs naked. If I were any less, I
think I might prefer the 14.5' model. But this 15' fits me fine and
would easily fit anyone 6" taller and 50lbs heavier. The boat has a
drop down skeg that makes a nice and noticeable difference in cross
wind tracking. Also helps tracking, wind or not, on flat water with
no perceptible difference in drag, and it's easily retracted for
turns and maneuverability. I've taken waves over the deck
and the hatches are water tight. They fit like Tupperware lids. It
weighs 57 lbs so is a few lbs less than my OT Penobscot 16' canoe
and is fairly easy to carry for a short distance. I wouldn't want
to portage more than a 1/4 mile or so though, with either
boat
My only dislike is with the back of the seat. Granted, it's
extremely comfortable, but it's way the hell too high. I don't know
how one is expected to use a spray skirt with it sticking up like
that. I've removed mine and plan to replace it with a simple back
band. But that's about the only necessary modification I'll need to
do on this boat. Anything more will be just convenience type
additions.

don't know about other areas on craigslist but pvt owners are sell their emotions with their yaks or canoes , way better deal in the stores.
