inflatables
Return to Discussionsok my first kayak was a Sevylor 2 person inflatable and yeah they are a good start but does anyone a good inflatable kayak or canoe ? paging through the canoe & kayak magazines they have come a long ways and they are from the $99. Sevylor. if you have the space in your vehicle or camper it would be great that they would always be with you for that last minute cruise.
Just returned from a trip into eastern TN and western NC with a girlfriend. Spent a couple of hours hanging out at the Nantahala Outdoor Center and watching the activity on the River there and saw every manner of raft, canoe, and kayak imaginable, including some inflatable kayaks. I had never thought an inflatable kayak would be a good idea but some of these seemed quite stiff and sturdy. However, I still think they'd be better for floating a swift flowing creek/river than on a lake or other still water. I doubt that I'll ever convert my G/F into a nudist but she does seem interested in becoming a paddler. After we'd left the river, we later rented a canoe for a short still water paddle and she seemed to enjoy it... even though she was mostly there for the ride and looking at the scenery. But at least she seemed comfortable on the water and willing to learn a few paddling skills. Anyhow, mainly wanted to give mention of the inflatable kayaks I saw on the River. I'm pretty sure they were all rentals but they changed my mind about their capabilities. At least on a river. The good ones don't look cheap though.

We bought a used Coleman Exponent inflatable. One of the performance tricks for that model is to put a 1x4 board about five feet long in the bottom of it as a keel between the enclosing "bag" and the inflation cells . It stiffens the boat up so it tracks better.
That's a great idea. Do you need to do something to keep it in place? Seems like it would slip one way or the other or possibly even slip out.
And one off topic thing I just noticed. On my post above, I can see the little pencil icon to be used to edit my own post. That's normal. But what's NOT normal is that I can see the edit icon on the posts by Cherbear and Natureboy too. Can y'all see the edit icon on my posts? I'm assuming that we can all edit each other's posts! lol! How do we report such a glitch to the webmaster?
