Miss America
Return to DiscussionsIt reminds me of my very first visit to a nude beach - in Brighton, UK. There was a Miss UK contest in town and the contestants were topping up their tans. They couldn't risk tan lines for the swimwear part or the evening dress part of the contest. Nothing less than an all-over tan would do. It did add some interest to my first social nudist experience.
A recent Miss America had an editorial in Time Mag this week about this. She admitted that while her swimsuit presentation probably helped her and she didn't mind doing it, it probably distracts from more important aspects of the selection. Moreover, it contributed nothing toward the actual responsibilities she had in her year of Miss America activities. She supports the dropping of the swimsuit competition.
Nudists appreciate their own and others' nakedness. Some are very proud of their physiques but I am not sure that comparing young women's measurements in a swimsuit competition would be considered a pro-nudist stance, at least not for me. But I have a hard time figuring out what the point is of most of those contests.
I agree that the contest dont have any real meaning. In the beginning it was a way to get people to go to Atlantic City. If you bring beautiful women in and have the press cover it, the men will come. Since they were near a beach, swim suits made since and it further attracted the men to the casinos.
Having said that. I dont care if they have a swim suit contest or not. I dont watch it anyway but I do like seeing women in (or out) of swim suits.
In the start all these Miss... contests were about the physical beauty of the contestants. They all had to be pin-ups. And, short of full nudity, the swimwear was the best way to show off the girl's figures. I agree that nudism isn't about pin-up figures. We come in all shapes and sizes. And variety is the spice of (nudist) life. But we are not competing to be Miss... or Mr .
