Return to DiscussionsThere is a dearth of nude beaches in Asia, as most countries are conservative and nudity is not accepted except in spas. On a recent trip to Phuket, we were determined to explore beaches where we could hang out nude. A few online reviews suggested Mai Khao, so we thought "let's do it". We got to the middle of the 11km beach through the Marriott Hotel. There were the odd tourists but mostly quiet. So stripped off, enjoyed the sun, and noticed a few other nudists were about. The sun was beautify, the water was clear, so all in all a very satisfying nudist afternoon.
Hi, thanks for your review. My friend and I were in Phuket some 15 years ago, back in 2008. We were also exploring, looking for unofficial nude beaches in Thailand. And we found Mai Khao, with many kilometres of unspoilt, natural, jaded seawater, and golden sandy beaches. The beaches were devoid of people at certain stretches, very secluded i would say. One could just bare all, lie down or sit on the golden sand and get a good sun tan ... have a picnic or read a book, etc.
Have not gone back since, but your recent visit there has confirmed that Mai Khao continues to be conducive for naturism. But as a respect, it's prudent to cover up if there happens to be other beach users nearby and for one's personal safety.
