Looking for ideas
Return to DiscussionsHi all, just joined the group. I have been doing the hose and garden sprayer shower for years. Now I'm looking to build a real shower.
We live in the country with a long drive so I'm just planning a shower head and wood base .
Wondering how others handle the hot water supply and drain? I am considering an on demand camper hot water heater or a coil of black pipe on my roof. Anyone got prior experience with either?
Want it to be kinda fancy as my wife agrees it will be a nice addition. She is a little cold natured for the hose :) otherwise I wouldn't worry about water heaters!
If you cannot get to any of your hot water lines then you would need a external hot water here some kind. Black pipe on the roof Will work until you have a cloudy day. That might be the cheapest way out. Or find a small hot water heater from a camper. Then only turn it on when you need it.
That's the issue, getting a tie in to any of my hot water is way too much effort. I saw a camper size propane instant water heater in a catalog once, can't remember which one. I have propane so that is easy, but I'm a bit frugal. Hot water would be nice .... I like the 1st picture in this group, a shower head out amount the trees is supercool. Probably not real practical for us, but sooo cool .
I have had an outdoor shower since 1992 and now nothing in our new house and I miss it. I'm looking to put one in too. On Amazon they show one that stores water in its bas to be used as hot water. I'm not sure what I think about that. I saw quite a few solutions for adding one. My new house is right across from a park with a lake. My shower will be mostly private, but if someone really wanted to see they could. My dilemma is do I care??? Not sure.
I found that Amazon has instant hot water heaters intended for just our porpose. About 100$.
We frequently shower in the yard like the first picture, just a hose and spray head. But then we are a quarter mile from the road with no near houses. I like the shower head out by the pool idea, so the heater is somewhat of an eye sour in my view. Going to try and post a photo of the heater setup.
I agree that th e shower is an eyesore. I am looking at a solar one. The base holds water in a black resivoir so it is hidden. Not a lot of hot water, but I am the only one who likes the outdoor shower.
I have one of those, and added 150' of black hose to feed it via a "Y" valve at the base with cold tap water mixed in. Gives me about 5 minutes of hot water depending on sun exposure and how much cold water I allow into the mix.

Wow, I was just going to post about it getting towards the end of the season for me. I took a swim and showered under the hose yesterday. Hav figured out just how long to lay the hose on the pool deck in the sun to get the temp just perfect!
Noticed I posted this thread 4 years ago, I really got to get rountuit! Still havent set anything up permanently, too many options. I just keep planning, and replaning! Maybe next spring....
