Letting Others Know You Are Naked
Return to DiscussionsI am curious how you let other boaters know you are naked without putting yourself at risk of being reported. Due to my employment I cannot risk being caught by people who would be offended and report it. On the other hand, I would like to let other boaters who enjoy being naked it is OK to pull up near our boat while in the buff. I have hung swimsuits on the side to "dry", but I have not had luck with others recognizing that. I have tried doing a casual get in or out of the boat so they can just get a glimpse of me, but that borders on the risky. Just curious as we there are a few beaches that we frequent that are quiet enough that it would be nice to have like minded boaters join.
My approach is pretty passive. Once I am clear of a marina/boat ramp, I get naked. If I am in tight waters like a canal or narrow river, I keep a life jacket ready to put over my lap, but in wide open water, I don't. If someone comes close enough to see I am naked, then they see what they see. They didn't need to get that close, so they have invaded my privacy. So far, the only comments I have had when someone does get "too" close have been positive (like I wish I could do that, etc.)
I sail and once say a mile from shore, never bother to cover up when a boat passes by unless there are kids aboard. Most people wave and smile and some yell looking good captain. A few will come up and sail side by side and chat.
