Breaking our own every other year rule

Return to Discussions

We had originally planned to just go on the Bare Necessities
cruises every other year, but for a combination of new ports we had
been talking about going to even before becoming nudists (Aruba,
Bonaire, and Curacao) and a second year in a row with Carnival (who
don't seem to be as freaked out about the nudity). So we went ahead
and booked for 2018 as well. We are in cabin 6203, one of the
forward facing cabins with a picture window opening onto a public
balcony. BN has an early-bird sale with $100/pp discount.

We're hoping the '17 and '18 cruises are nakeder than this year's cruise was. Other than being sick four days the undress code was our greatest disappointment. We're all for the "nude unless weather conditions dictate otherwise" rule and were amazed that so many people were dressed so much of the time. Being our first nude cruise it was not at all what we expected. The theme for 2017 is Dare to Bare and at one point was billed "the most nude cruise yet", for whatever that's worth.

This will be my first BNB cruise. So, past cruises had cruise passengers wearing bathrobes? Doesn't that defeat the point of paying extra to enjoy being nude on the ship?

Carnival hit it out of the park on this year's cruise. We had an absolute blast. The captain stayed an extra week after his contract ended so he could be on the nude charter, and we heard rumors that he joined us nude on Half Moon Cay. The cruise director even told us that he has requested to go over to the Victory for our charter next year. We were allowed to be nude on the ship in every port except Key West. Since even being topless at the Grand Turk Margaritaville pool (thanks to egging on by the DJ) ended up getting police warnings, by mid-afternoon everyone was back on the ship. Slightly cheaper over-priced drinks and nude by the pool wins out every time.

There were bathrobes, but it did seem like less people were wearing them. People were more dressed than nude in the theater, but we don't go to many shows anyway. The deck party and nightclub dances were maybe 50/50 nude vs clothed. I only dressed to eat in the main dining room for dinner and to get off in port... other than the Tom Brady jersey I wore for the Super Bowl. I did my part to make it 'nakeder'!

RE:Breaking our own every other year rule

We just booked to do the cruise. I did a nude Windjammer cruise some 20 years ago. We've done some 22 vanilla cruises but wife wants to do a nude one. We'll have some questions as we go along and before the cruise.

Holy crap!! I had no idea this was a thing! Could someone fill me in on their experience?? And I'll go but may need to share a room. I've cruised a lot but never carnival. I'm elite on celebrity. Help!! I'm always nude on my balcony. Would be great to go with a like minded guy-girl. Please message me.

If you like going on cruises and like going to nude beaches and resorts, then this is a combination of the two. A 2000-3000 passenger ship is chartered (Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, etc.) for a 9-10 night February (usually) cruise and you can be nude anywhere but the main dining room and specialty restaurants while at sea. If you eat on the Lido deck buffet, you could stay nude all day on a sea day. Ports are chosen that have at least some nude excursions available. Usually there is one stop on a private island where you can also be nude all day on the beach. All of the regular ship's activities are still run, and there is way more participation by everyone. There are usually extra activities as well as bands brought on in addition. A summer cruise on a luxury ship like the Paul Gauguin or Royal Clipper is usually available, too, but they are even longer and cost quite a bit more.

2015 & 2016 were on Celebrity, so you would have gotten whatever extras elite status entitles you to. The last and this upcoming one are on Carnival, so we got the extras that Gold status gives us on Carnival.

We don't even bother getting a balcony room on these cruises because (1) you can be nude anywhere anyway, and (2) they do cost more than a textile cruise, so by downgrading your room you can get the price down to around what you would have paid for a balcony.
