Your weekly logical fallacy: false cause
Return to DiscussionsHere comes week two and this time we look into false cause. You presumed that a real or perceived relationship between things means that one is the cause of the other. Many people confused correlation for causation. Sometimes correlation is coincidental, or it may be attributable to a common cause. Example: The number of people accepting of nudism is increasing. Also, the number of people comfortable with coming out as LGBT+ is increasing. That means people who come out as LGBT+ are all nudists! When in fact both numbers have no relation to the other. Being one or the other could mean that you are more open to newer experiences, but it doesn't mean you will be in both those camps.
