Return to DiscussionsI dont go to Burning Man, but I used to go to the parties run by local burners. Years ago, we had a get together at a house with a pool. Most of the time at these parties, that means skinny dipping. I wouldnt walk around at the parties naked, but I would definitely take advantage of the pool.
I got out of the pool and put on a towel. Immediately, I met a woman Id never seen at these parties before. She was pretty and struck up a conversation with me. I found out that she was a housemate for a friend of mine, who was also a nudist named Kay. I found out that she was an art model.
We went out a few times. She would often tell me stories about her modeling work, bragging about places where shed been naked. I figured that given who her housemate was and that shed met me while I was skinny dipping, I would offer to take her up to out local nude club for some hot tubbing.
Wow, was I wrong.
We were parked in front of her house when I asked about it, and she laid into me. Its disgusting, she shouted. When I go nude, its for art. I dont understand why you and Kay do that!
Um. Okay.
I saw her here and there around town and Id be friendly, but I think I only went out with her one more time. It wasnt that she wasnt a naturist, it was her judgmental attitude. I found that nudism wasnt the only thing she had such hostility for, which made me wonder why she went to burner parties in the first place.
That was four or five years ago, and I havent thought about her much. I got a message today from her apologizing for negative experiences or if she ever hurt me. I dont know if that was the incident she was referring to. I thanked her.

It sounds like she may be having counseling or therapy. Looking back and confronting previous bad behavior is a common action

Yeah, I figured that too. I asked a mutual acquaintance about it, the old nudist roommate, actually. She said a bunch of people had gotten the messages. Its part of a conversion to Buddhism, she said.
Well, despite the confrontation, it is good that she has come around and apologized. She still may never join you skinny dipping but she should be much less judgemental. In today's world, I call that a big win and I happy whenever we can gain some acceptance.

That makes a lot of sense. It's a very Zen like action
