Nudists are exhibitionists - Do you agree?

Return to Discussions

When I look back, I find that i used to be extreamly excited in my younger days when someone saw me naked. With aging, that desire slowed down. But when I see younger generation of present era, I feel all have the desire to be seen. Depending on sexuality the expected audiance varies. Some wants to show hard on (flasing) some just want to be seen by others in its natural way.

What do you guys think? (I am coming from a male's perspective only)

NO nudists are not exhibitionists. There are two fundamental flaws to this argument. First the definition of exhibitionism is the derivation of sexual pleasure being viewed naked. While I believe many people who like to be naked are indeed exhibitionists, nudism and the non sexual nudity that is part of the nudist way of life is is not about sexual pleasure or pleasure from being viewed naked.

Second it relies on the notion that has been popularized that anything naked or anyone in a state of nudity is de facto a nudist. This is like saying anyone or anything in a garage is a car.

So for those two reason among many others categorically NO to proposition that nudists are exhibitionists. Not even close.

In the 2000s there were some people in naturism / nudism / FKK who started the nude activism, like the nude in public movement. They said nudism would be the same as exhibitionism. We should stop that. This harms only our nudism & naturism movement.

Co-sign on this many of those people were not for the most interested in actually promoting naturism/nudism but rather self promotion as so called nudist content creator. They pushed the idea that anyone who promoted nakedness online should be considered nudists. They are in large part responsible for the degradation of the nudist way of life as the uninitiated looks at that particularly online and associates sexual nudity with nudism.

I enjoy being seen nude but only when there is no chance of being arrested. There is a real excitement in being exposed to the view of others especially by females.

It's an interesting question. I love being nude when I can, when the weather and circumstances allow. I don't walk down the street of the town that I live in though, that isn't appropriate to the norms of our society and our laws. An exhibitionist may walk down the street naked, if they had the chance as their motivation seems more to show off (a body body or their endowment) or to shock others,

I am nude at home, both inside and in my private back yard, also at CO beaches where it legal. I walk along the beach and am seen by textiles but I don't think that makes me an exhibitionist, or does it? I don't care if I am seen naked there as it is legal / allowed. Textiles walking on those beaches know they are clothing optional so I'm doing what is allowed. I don't care if I am seen when am there, so I'm not sure what that means.

At home I also collect my newspaper from my front porch naked each morning, I do it before others are around and I don't do it t be seen. The front of my house is open to the street and there are no fences at the front. I get out of bed naked, collect the paper, and then come inside and make a tea or coffee. I'm not trying to be seen, but being discrete, I enjoy being nude in my house.

So, from my perspective, I don't think I am an exhibitionist, but am comfortable in my skin and don't care if I am seen at the beach. If people look over hedges or into my yard, that says more about them than me.

Finally, I'm not sure we will all have the same answer to the question and many may have a different approach to me. I f we don't hurt others, does it matter?

I belong to a local nude resort and dont find it sexual so l dont think all nudists are exhibitionists. When l was a teenager ld become erect nude or when wearing clothes. I often studied nude in my room and found an erection distracting when trying to focus and study. My mom would come in my room when l was nude at my desk. She could tell l was nude but couldnt see my genitals due to the position of the desk. I could only be nude in my room unless it was the middle of the night and Id go in the backyard nude or the garage to use my weight set. It wasnt a sexual thing. That said l have a healthy sex drive and enjoy being nude to relax at the end of the day. As my partner was disabled l found a sexual outlet online posting sexy pics on X and Telegram. I have an exhibitionistic streak, but in general just enjoy being nude. My thoughts on modesty about being nude is that its really about body shame . Thats my personal perspective though.

Some nudists are exhibitionists, and some are not.
Some nudists are voyeurs, and some are not.
Some nudists enjoy the company of other nudists, and some do not.

As long as people aren't being creepy about it, I make no assumptions about what's going on inside their heads.

For the record, I don't care about being seen, so I wouldn't call myself an exhibitionist.

I do take pleasure in seeing the female form, but it's something I'd do for women in clothing as well, and it's subordinate to appreciating their personalities. And it's definitely not something I'd advertise if it causes them any distress. There's to much objectification of the female body in our society, anyway, and I see no need to increase it.

I think being an exhibitionist kind of denotes the desire or even innate need to entertain, or in the case of nude exhibitionism, titillate a crowd for ones own satisfaction. A true nudist does not require a crowd to gain the satisfaction of being nude. For a nudist the satisfaction is derived from the comfort of shedding the clothesperiod. No crowd necessary. So I would have to disagree with your assertion, respectfully of course. Stay naked my friends!
