Tyagarah Beach Byron Bay NSW

Return to Discussions

Tyagarah Beach is a nude beach which has been designated by Byron Council. It is located 500 metres west of Belongil Creek and can be accessed by driving down Grays Lane at Tyagarah. If someone is coming down from Queensland and they want to go to a legal nudist beach, then Tyagarah is the northern end of Belongil Beach. Enter off Pacific Highway about six kilometres before you get to the Byron Bay turnoff. The road is called Grays Road and it takes you into the National Park and right to Tyagarah Beach.

yes indeed and the tea tree lakes are an unsual alternative although can be a bit dodgy lol, but I enjoyed swimming there, te dunes though have been hammered over recent years by storms and been eaten away, but a wonderful surf beach and the water is nice and warm.

I went to Tyagarah last Sunday for the first time. I didn't realise there would be no shady trees. Make sure you bring an umbrella or beach tent and plenty of sunscreen. It is still an awesome beach and goes on forever. It was awesome to just walk for ages naked along the beach. There is a $7 parking fee to the National Parks and Wildlife so make sure you have money with you. I had to scrounge up what coins I could find in my car! I'll be going back for sure. NudyJay

My wife and I love both the beach and the tea tree lake, we trek down from the Gold Coast every chance we get. Last time we were at the lake there was even a couple from Tasmania who had heard about it and chose it to be their first naked experience.

agree
The Tea Tree lake looks good on appearance - but there are issues with the water from time to time and being a little more secluded, have encountered some less savory activities in years gone by.
It was the beach for me when I used get down there (just stay clear of the area behind the dunes)One day again?

I actually prefer the northern end of Belongil beach, remote, quieter, peaceful and no unsavoury types lol just me! HahaFor me it is not the social aspect, it is the seclusion and sound of the ocean waves, the breeze and the birds etc. it's heaven for me.Come with me sometime, pm me and we will try to plan a day trip.agree with you....waves etc

As we were driving down the highway about a week ago - we could see that the council was working on their end of Grays Lane. I think the other end though is maintained by National Parks - so probably wasn't included this time.
I wonder how the road will be by the time the warmer weather returns ?

Possibly we need to be grateful that there is any sort of access road along grays lane and taking us so close to the beach. It is so much better than the likes of the access to ABay, even if you can find somewhere to park, it is still a decent hike to the beach

I was there last week, the road surface still has pot holes. There are some exposed rocks on the southside of the beach - northern side much better. A great place to relax, however there is no shade. I have not been to the teatree lake but maybe next time.
