Is lithium ion ready for prime time?

12 years in, we are still on temporary construction power - waiting for the right time to leave the grid and install solar. (We have no right-of-way for permanent grid power.) I have an outbuilding with a roof oriented with solar in mind. We've been waiting mostly for the storage technology to improve; I've been reluctant to have a truckload of lead batteries to maintain. I know Tesla now has a house-sized lithium ion battery. How is that actually working out? Anything out there a late-adopter like me should be aware of?

steve
elon musk is a great promoter but tesla's technology is inferior to other companies out there. there are many companies with house systems so check them out on the web. one in particular is a canadian company called electrovaya. there are also some european companies with better technology than tesla. car companies like nissan, porsche, maclaren and mercedes also have better batteries but i haven't yet done any research to try and find out if they are done in house or come from an outside source.
