Summer Whites!
I'm a red wine drinker. I prefer Merlots, Cab Sav, Tempranello, Zins ... not much into Blush or Whites anymore ... BUT ... it's been really hot here in Southern California and a cold glass of wine seemed much more refreshing so I helped my wife kill two bottles, 1from eachof our local wineries,Viognier. Man ... that hit the spot. Improved my putting on our synthetic putting green too! :D
I've only recently started drinking white wine to any significant extent. I blame that on an American friend - she's a lot more relaxed after a couple of glasses of chardonnay. The problem is it goes down way too quickly. [I keep a couple of bottles in the fridge all the time now just in case I want to make believe its sunny & warm]
That is a great idea for the white wine on a hot day. We will try that on our next beach day. Normally it's beer during the day and red wine at night. We did just find a great buy on french red wine at the Woodlands Costco. $77 a case. I know the 'wine guy' there pretty well and he always has good advise on all wines. This wine we got tastes like a $18-$20 bottle of wine. Well the case only lasted 4 days.
Yes, you can spritzer use like beer :-). On hot day we need some more liquid. On the evening we like a good glass of red wine too.
Is a case 6 bottles (like here?)
I love the Tuscan reds. We were in Italy this year and I am spoiled.
I'm sure you were spoiled. Although we haven't been to Italy, while we were on Crete we had some fabulous local white wines. If I'm not mistaken, Europe does not allow the same amount of sulfites and additives as the US producers can get away with which may be a reason the wine is so good over there. Don't get me wrong, there are some great organic California wines; you just have to seek them out. Another reason why we make our own.

And why is that a problem? Except that you may run out sooner than you expected.
I also like a variety or white wines, though I prefer Pinot Grigio and Chenin Blanc or a Savagnion Blanc. Although I would not say no to a good chardonnay especially if it were un-oaked.

We just played a round of golf and then had a late lunch at the clubhouse. They only sell beer and wine and it was a really nice day ... mid to upper 70's through the round. I had a really good burger and my wife had a gyro style BLT ... we washed our food down with a very nice sauvignon blanc. I was soooo good, I had two glasses and I'm not a white wine drinker, usually, but I did like that Sauvi Blanc!

Ca Viognier is a great choice but a great doppelgnger to it is Roussane - fruity, fresh , un-Oaked and great on a hot day. And there are great viogniers, roussanes and rose from the Paso Robles appelation on the Central Coast. We think it produces wine that can equal Napa depending on the winery.
My wife enjoys Pinot Gregio as well and I drink it on occasion. I don't drink as much white wine as I used to but if she's in the mood for wine ... white is what she prefers and if she's drinking wine ... I'll drink whatever she's drinking cuz I hate drinking alone and I'm sure she does too! :D
