Traditionally a Nudist would rather be nude in everyday situations and a Naturist prefers to be nude in a natural environment, such as beaches or in Nature.

I personally prefer being a "naturist" expounding upon your definition, but often I must settle for being nude in my home. Would that make me a part time "domesticist", part time "naturist"? ;-)

I've heard it said that 'naturist' was introduced because it didn't contain nud(e)!

Johhny_Yuma56 - There is often a difference in what you want to do vs. what you can do. If you prefer to be a nudist and are limited to a naturist setting does that change what you prefer? Likewise, if you like blondes and marry a brunette does that mean youhave tolove the personless?

I would term myself as being a nudist as I like being nude as opposed to being nude in nature, I like being nude anywhere, if it was socially acceptable I would be nude all the time. I also don't really care about being seen nude, whether in a nudist setting or not.

Nudist

A
nudist is a person who practices nudism. A nudist will seek out locations for
being nude just for the sake of being nude. There is no true moral or ethical
component to this lifestyle.

Naturist

A
naturist is someone who practices naturism. A naturist will mostly seek out
locations that are natural with a focus on public lands and or beaches. A
naturist lifestyle has core ethics and values that one needs to adhere to in
order for them to truly be called a naturist.

In
America, the two terms are used interchangeably but that is a mistake. The main
organization for nudism in the USA promotes "nude recreation". Nude
recreation by definition, is more of a hobby or activity where people can and
will be naked. While naturism (which is also the preferred term in European
countries) is more of a lifestyle choice, and the ethical roots go far deeper
than purely being nude in public.

In
either case, the individuals will seek out activities where they can enjoy
social nudity.

RE: This is a rather dumb question!!!!!!

Indeed it is.
I love being naked be it at home the beach or the bush.
Be it being alone or with others, I don't really care which, but being outdoors is the best place to be naked and enjoy nature sensously playing with my naked body. The cooling breeze, the warming sun, the invigorating heavy rain or caresing mist or just a gentle shower.
So am I a naturist or a nudist I don't care, I think I'll start a new movement called "Nakedist" for those who enjoy a life of freedom and happiness in ones self satisfaction of being who I am the way I am.
