Naturism in Ireland - could be great but!!
Where is naturist Ireland? We have a great coastline with plenty of beaches and spots to nude sunbathe and swim and yet we have nowhere official we can call 'home'. We did have a great opportunity last year when Ireland hosted the World Naturist Congress. Filte Ireland and the government were very much behind the event and I feel that with a little persuasion the government and County Councils could have been coaxed into providing a number of naturist facilities. However that opportunity now seems to have been missed and this is a great pity.We seem to be the only country in the EU that does not have naturist facilities or laws that allow for nudity in particular places. Is this not an infringement of our human rights? This seems to be an argument put forward by other groups and organisations and these seem to be winning their cases. Is this not an argument we can put forward? It was generally agreed last September by Filte Ireland that Naturist Tourism was a growing business. If so why are they not doing more to promote Ireland as a naturist destination by having our outdated laws amended and clothing optional beaches legalised. We are promoted as a Naturist destination in a number of magazines [in one we are supposed to have a beach that is in the world top 10!!!] However tourists come only to find we do not have an official beach and they leave disappointed = never to return again. A great pity and a shame on us
