RE: Fender VS GibsonI have many guitars and basses (including Fender, Peavy, Gibson, Samick, Ernie Ball,etc.)- they each have their own personalities that I use for particular songs/styles. I believe that any one that has to useone specificbrand is not a real musician, unless of course they are endorsed by the manufacturer..... In which case you use the endorsers instrument when they are sponsoring you and your favorite other times.

Post #4ma_jandcSuper NudistJ & C from MA RE: Fender VS GibsonI have a '54 Telecaster and a new MIM Strat, so for now I guess it's Fender! I wouldn't mind adding a Les Paul Gold Top and moving up to an American Standard Strat once I can play better!

Just had my Tele appraised for insurance, and it's actually a '53 (neck and body both dated January 53). Almost everything is still original and in good working order. Getting it cleaned up (without messing with the patina) and a new setup and it should be good for another 63 years!

RE: Fender VS GibsonIt depends, on kind'a Music I'm playing! The Sweet Soulful sound of the Les Paul,
is Good for Blues (although SRV proved, so can a Strat) and Fuller stuff.
i like the strat, for more Attacking type of Music.

I have guitars from both companies and use them very differently. If forced to pick I would pick my modified fender telecaster.

Have a SG
Firebrand and telecaster and sadly only a knock off strat but it does the job.

RE:Fender VS GibsonAll of the above!
If you could only have one... I think an HSS Strat can cover the most ground. But really you need to own at a minimum:
- Strat style guitar (I prefer G&L)
- Gibson LP (or some form of HH single cut guitar at 24.75" scale)
- 335 style semi-hollow guitar
- Tele style guitar (G&L).
Otherwise, don't get caught up in brand loyalty stuff.. it's not like any of us are endorsed professionals, and even they have a slew of guitars from all kinds of manufacturers. We are also in the golden age for boutique builders. There are some insanely talented luthiers out there building amazing instruments.
