RE: sailboat you miss most

i've only had two sailboats but my first one i miss most , it was a RK21 and had tons of room in cabin and cockpit - kinda like a small camper on the water. it wasn't fast but had a swing keel and had a rubber coated deck and lifelines so comfortable walking upfront. i rember my first boat slip was $65. a quarter at lake lanier and it was cheap because it was on the end cap which was ok with me. weekends were hell on the lake it was so busy but the weekdays were great as little traffic and once away from dock you could slip off bathing suit and sunbathe while sailing.

I've moved up each time too... started with 8ft sabot, now a 36ft sloop. I make sure with each boat I can handle it by myself or with the assistance of auto pilot. No regrets on selling any of my previous boats

i haven't sailed in years opting for canoe and kayak but like every year i get the itch and want one, i mainly would go solo so looking for a 16- 17 ft with cuddy cabin. last year someone posted a Free 17 ft wood sloop on craiglist - beautiful boat and so tempted but had a fixed keel which meant a slip so i passed .

They say that the two happiest days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.I built my 1st real sailboat, a Luger Windward 21 from a kit when 21 years old and 17 years later traded it for a Macgregor 19 bought new. I sail her a lot for 20 years and sold her last spring for the price i wanted. i don't miss either boat ... it was time. I sail on others' boats now (people need crew) and have my little Snark for the beach .... no regrets.i know this is a old post but i was always fascinated as a kid with Lugar boat kits and would look at the brochure for hours dreaming of building my own boat. i see Luger boats popup occasionally for sale and wouldn't mind owning one.

I have a Luger Seabreeze 16. Love it.
The only sailboat I have sold was a Mayflower day sailer. I do miss it for the simplicity. I had it set up for motor or sail.

This summer(2016) may be our last year with our sailboat.....a Cape Dory Typhoon day sailer...no cuddy. The lake we sail on...in the nude....mostly at night...to escape the heat...is threatening to increase our slip fees 300%. The increase was proposed in 2014, but the lack of rain, had the lake levels so low, that boats were trapped in their slips. We have to pay for the year, no refunds if lake is unusable, each April. A wet winter has the lake filled, and we are not far away from the renewals, if they do go up to the $300 a month fees, we will not be renewing. In that case, our boat will be for sale, and we already regret it.
