RE: Religious beliefs and nudity.

I am starting to find that there are those here who are very obcessed with nudity as they are pushing their religious views. It is like a little gang that is very millitant and short sighted, with way too many judgements towards what others believe. I know that this is a little off the topic, but I can not help to feel that maybe these individuals are not so much trying to spread the word, but only trulely trying to convince their selves that they have the truth.
Don't take it personally, Berrimtl. I tend to believe the way you do and I like your arguments, but this may not be the proper forum for them. You might find likeminded people at the Atheists/agnostics Retreat Group. Last time I checked, it still wasn't active. but you might be able to bring some life to it.

As for the original question, Liloandstitch, it ultimately boils down to what YOU are comfortable with given your take on life and the values gleaned from holy books, people you consider to be moral examples, and, quite possibly, the company you keep. Stay with us and you'll have no quarrels from us about whether you should ever be naked in mixed company. We do that all the time!
Well said Gerry!

RE: Religious beliefs and nudity.

How do people of any religious belief, especially those with strong stances against being socially nude find a way to get the two issues to coexist within themselves?
By paying attention to the religious teachings of that faith, and not the dogma.
Example:
Genesis 3:7-11 is usually taught to mean nude, when it does not say nude, it says naked.
I take naked to mean something has become blindingly apparent that was not, or should not, be so in polite company such as a naked blade for an unsheathed scabbard.
They knew that God could see into their hearts, and THAT is what they were trying to hide.
It's been twisted into a dogmatic stance about being nude, when it never meant that at all.
IMHO.

Which of these people are Christians? Which are atheists?
The tall guy in the back - he looks like a Methodist to me. :)

RE: Religious beliefs and nudity.

Also important to remember that the original post had a question addressed to "people of any religious belief". So while I don't agree with the religious views presented, I took it to mean that I had nothing really to say on that subject. But given the question, I think it is appropriate for the people who were asked to espouse their belief while they reconcile it wth nudity. As tempting as it is to steer the discussion towards belief vs. non-belief, this may not be the place to do it. New thread ???? BTW - the Atheist/Agnostic Retreat group is active. For some reason, it was deleted from the group list for awhile, but you can find it now.
Well said BCN. thankfully most of the responses were answers based on their beliefs and did not attack others.

Does religious preferences matter in the TN website? IT MATTERS BIG TIME TO US
AND THE MAJORITY OF OTHERS! no one is added to our friends list that has a
profile that states they are bi or even bi curious because there are no true
Christians who are bi, or of if they say they are atheists! As well we
don't usually see atheists with Christians on their friends lists, so yes it in
fact matters. As for TN it is quite apparent they are wide open to embracing the
American public that claims they are "One Nation Under God" just look at a US
dollar bill or coin.

Regardless of yourreligious beliefs, if you were born without clothes, you should be able to safely assume that is the natural way to be and there is nothing wrong with it. It is man that has written laws against nudity, not some higher being.

Does religious preferences matter in the TN website? IT MATTERS BIG TIME...
I see now that I have been remiss in filtering my friends. Though I list myself as Atheist, only about 3% of my friends identify in the same way. Strangely, about 30% identify themselves as one form of Christian or another. Of course some of the Christians also list themselves as bi or bi-curious, so maybe I can't count those. I even managed to get one Jew to befriend me.
I was obviously asleep at the wheel. In future, I guess I should be more vigilant - only "true" atheists will pass the portal. Free pass if you have a 1956 dollar bill.

Hmmm...not to confuse the issue, but what about....Bi-cycle nudists???

Jen - good point. I defer to the "true" experts as to whether the bi-cycle is indeed a satanic invention. Come to think of it, bi-pedalism may be suspect as well. Can we get a ruling?

I figure that we are all nudists, regardless of whatever faith you happen to be. I admit that in evaluating a potential friend, being a Christian is a plus to me.
