Combining Similar Groups
Has there ever been any thought as to combining groups with a similar theme? Like there is one titled "Home Nudist" and another titled "Naked at Home 2014". They are both about being naked/nude at home, same topic, different groups. There are several for nudist motorcyclists as well, as I am sure there are other repeated interests, but in separate groups, and all with the same underlying theme. If similar groups could be combined, it would make for fewer but larger groups to exchange ideas. I was going through the list of groups the other day and noticed there are many with the same topic. I then started thinking how much better it could be to have these merged together so as to reduce the amount of groups one would have to join to cover the same topic. These groups would then have a larger number of members, and everyone in them could convey their thoughts to a larger audience of members, and a corresponding increase in feed back among members. The mods for each of the smaller groups that are combined could then oversee the one larger group instead.
Would make for a better site if the admin team could find someway as there seems to be too much overlap often because a member is unaware of an existing group.
That's what I was thinking. There are SO MANY groups now, I think like 2971, that it is hard to know what each one is for. Many of them cover the same subject matter, so the members of one group may not be aware of what another group of the same subject is talking about. If these could be combined, then they would be better off, with a higher membership, and more exchange of ideas.
Also, some could be eliminated if there has been no activity of them in 2 years or so. If no one has posted on or joined a particular group in 2 years or more, then maybe it should be culled. If any site moderators know how to forward this to the admin, then maybe something can be done to fix some of this. Just trying to help get the site cleaned up and consolidateda little better if possible.
This seems to be an issue on several sites that I frequent. Multiple similar groups, multiple topics on the same subject and lots and lots of members that haven't logged on in several months ... to years! Lots of completely blank profiles and those people never posted a thing or visited in months to years.
There is more to having site Moderators than having them moderate forums. Many of these mundane duties could be done by mods but I've found that many site owners do not like giving even some of their loyalist members any authority to do some of these things. Until then, I suspect that site owners will continue to let these things slide and not worry about them near as much as some members do.
:D
While some groups may appear to be identical based on their names they may function differently. This may be due to differences in moderators and the members.
If two (or more groups) ARE essentially identical to each other the easiest approach would be for the moderators and members to agree to merge by members / moderators of the duplicate groups joining the one group they agree to keep and delete the others.
A bigger problem are groups that simply need to be deleted because they're inappropriate for TN, not really groups but topics that no longer serve a purpose, or dead groups that haven't been active in years because the members and most important the moderators have not logged onto TN for years.

I know what you're saying but in reality ... they start out functioning differently but always end up on the exact same path, discussing the exact same topics. Let's face it ... there's only so much spin you can put on nudist topics ... concerning nudity. Even groups that are far different from others end up discussing the same things. ;-)
Has anybody here tried going thru the whole list and look at ALL of the topics? I have tried going through it some, get several pages in and have to quit. Then when I come back later and start back on the page I left off on, it seems the order has been changed up by the time I get back. I have not had time to go through the whole list in one sitting. I did see a lot of duplicated groups though, so this is why I initiated this thread.
